Hunger Awakened by Dee Carney

Don't for get to stop by the Lucky in Love Blog Hop post.

There's something inside of him, some dormant part that's been awakened. And now it wants to be set free…

Something's wrong with Sebastian Kent. Already considered an outsider in the vampire community as a half-vampire, half-something else, he'll do everything in his power to hide his weakness. But when sickness strikes, he has no choice but to turn to a human for help—a woman whose touch provides his only relief.

Alice Bowman is hiding her own illness, one that has left her homeless. When she comes to Bast's aid, she doesn't expect to be thrust into the world of vampires. He offers her refuge and a job researching his family history in the hope of finding a clue to his mysterious affliction. She can't resist his offer of protection—and the chance to spend more time with the man who arouses her every desire.

But as Bast's and Alice's hunger for each other grows, so does the power of Bast's unexplained half. And soon his unknown past and her uncertain future threaten to keep them apart forever…

I picked up Hunger Awakened without knowing it was part of an on going series, I didn't have any problems with reading this as a stand alone.

I loved the way that Alice who is homeless and eating from dumpsters is the one to rescue Sebastian (Bast), That someone who has seen the awfulness this world has to offer is willing to put herself on the line to help a stranger. Poor Bast is completely unprepared for becoming ill, his kind don't get sick, so when it happens he is like a small child in denial about a problem.
Alice is the eternal optimist always looking for a good side to things and she is taken with Bast right away.

Ms Carney does a good job drawing out the suspense of what could be wrong with Bast as well as Alice's mystery illness. The characters are easy to like and we do get some steamy scenes. I do have to say the prologue made no sense to me at all until I finished the book and then went back to re-read it, If I had read the previous book I would have understood it.

Hunger Awakened as well as the rest of the series is a unique look at vampires, shifters and other paranormal characters and has a world of Ms. Carney's creation. It is enjoyable and I know I am going to go and get the rest of the books as well as look for books that are sure to be in this series in the future.
