ARC Review: Wildly by Debra Kayn

Shauna Marino left Cottage Grove, California an innocent teenager, gangly, wild and with no fashion sense, always diving headfirst into whatever feelings ruled the moment. Now, she’s back to fix her mistakes. She’s gained a respectable job, set a plan in motion to benefit the town, and all that’s left is to prove to Grayson Schyler she’s changed. Maybe this time, he won’t tell her no when she shows up naked and asks him to make her a woman.

Grayson Schyler, former Wimbledon champion, would've recognized Shauna anywhere. She’s made his life sweeter one moment, and hell the next. As someone in the public eye, he’d gone to great strains not to allow the media to misread their relationship, which wasn't always easy when Shauna was around. Now she’s back, asking for his help, and all he can think about is if she came back to make him pay for what he’d done.

Release Date: 21 January 2013

Photobucket

When two people with messed up families meet when he is 19 and she is 12 and become friends the age difference to him is HUGE.

When those friends are now 25 and 18 and she is in love with him the experience difference seems insurmountable to him.

Now she is 24 and he is 31, she is done with college and has come back home to make up for all the trouble she caused both him and the town trying to get his attention back then, with all the walls he has built around his heart can she make a difference?

Shauna first real crush was Grayson and her only love has always been Grayson. She has gotten a job in her home town working as the head of the Chamber of Commerce and she hopes to show Grayson, along with the entire town, she has grown up and matured. Her first order of business is to get Grayson to help her put on an event with some famous sports celebrity friends of his to help revitalize the town and boost tourism in Cottage Grove.

Grayson had tried to put Shauna out of his mind, she was the type of girl who should fall in love, get married and have a family, that was something he just was not prepared to give her. His celebrity status as a former Wimbledon star gets him all sorts of women that he can use and leave and not have to worry about it. Why then is he so affected by her return to Cottage Grove?

I must say that at the beginning of this book I thought that Grayson was an enormous jerk, but as we get to know him and his reasons behind some of the things does I came to like him a lot more. I really could empathize with Shauna, I mean who hasn't had a crush on a hot older guy and of course making a fool of yourself over said older guy is a rite of passage.
I enjoyed the give and take between Grayson and Shauna and the relationship Shauna shares with her dad. The side story about Shauna's dad and mom is also compelling and helps us to understand Shauna and her reasoning process.

I think that Debra Kayn has put together a compelling story that shows us love evolving and changing over time and in all facets of the lives of the main characters.

ARC Reiew: Wildcat (Cat Star Chronicles #9) by Cheryl Brooks

ONLY ONE WOMAN CAN TAME HIM
When horse breeder Sara Shield encounters Jerden Morokovitz riding bareback and naked, she's stunned by the magnificence of both man and stallion. But Sara came to Terra Minor to get away from men.

IF SHE CAN GIVE UP HER FEAR...
The murder of Jerden's lover by a deranged woman has left this former star attraction of the Zetithian Palace brothel shattered in mind and body. Jerden is sure Sara can heal his anguish—but not unless he can find the key to her heart.

Scheduled for release February 5, you can pre-order your copy.

Photobucket

For anyone unfamiliar with Cheryl Brook's Cat Star Chronicles my advise to you would be to go buy the first 8 and read them between now an February 5th. Each book is a stand alone story and it can be read as such however you will miss some of the subtext of the world and be less likely to understand the secondary characters.

With the murder of his lover and fluffer from the Zetithian Palace brothel, Jerden escapes to the relative quiet of Terra Minor where he has purchased a ranch to isolate himself. Our first glimpse (and Sara's as well) of Jerden is returning a run away stallion to Sara's ranch where she is a horse breeder and trainer. What makes this memorable (for me as well as Sara) is that Jerden is stark naked when he comes riding in. Drool :OP

Sara has moved from Earth to start her horse business on Terra Minor specifically to avoid men as much as she can. She has to brush off the occasional advance from fellow rancher Nathan Wolmack but nothing she can't handle. Sara is immediately in awe of Jerden but that doesn't change her desire to not have men in her life.

Jerden is not sure how to take Sara he is used to having women throwing them selves at him, while he moved to get away from that Jerden is not sure why Sara never smells of desire but he is drawn to her none the less. Zetithian males are aroused as much by the smell of their partners arousal as their own, and this as well as having some performance issues caused by guilt over his lovers murder by a crazed woman stalker is a situation Jerden has never experienced.

With the main threat to the Zetithian race removed in Stud (book #8) the conflict and life or death struggle in this book comes from a little closer to home. As Sara and Jerden spend more time together they are more and more attracted. We are also treated to most of the characters from past books making brief cameo's in this book, I love hearing how many litters they have had. Wildcat seemed to have less sex than some of the previous books in the series but I think the sexual tension and the sex that was included were smoking hot.

If you like you sci-fi with an erotic edge then you will love this series and this is another fantastic book in an already great series. I am giving Wildcat 5 out of 5 flowers.

A Love Untamed by Pamela Palmer

They are called Feral Warriors—an elite band of immortals who can change shape at will. Sworn to rid the world of evil, consumed by sorcery and seduction, their wild natures are primed for release . . .

The newest member of the elite Feral Warriors brotherhood, Fox is eager to prove himself on the frontlines of battle against the Daemons. When paired with the legendary Ilina warrior Melisande, he expects the fierce beauty to quickly fall under the spell of his quite considerable charm. Instead, he finds himself spellbound by a woman who's his match in every way.

Beneath Melisande's brittle exterior lies centuries of pain and a violent hatred of all shape-shifters—a hatred that slowly crumbles after she and Fox are caught in a deadly and cunning Mage trap and she glimpses a surprising depth in her far-too-seductive partner. Their survival demands unconditional trust—and their salvation surrender to a wild, untamed love.

Photobucket
A Love Untamed is the 7th book in the Feral Warrior series, it was released just a few days ago on December 26th. If you are looking for a great paranormal romance series this is a great one to read, I would suggest however that you start at the beginning and not here at #7 :O)

Pamela Palmer shows off her talent at world building in A Love Untamed as well as her ability to take a somewhat unlovable character and turn them into the romantic heroine of her book. Melisande makes a return appearance as said heroine in A Love Untamed. We are given background into why Melisande is the way she is. I was able to get past my dislike of her from previous books and was able to embrace her as the damaged soul that Ms. Palmer shows her to be.

Fox or Kieran before he became the Fox Feral Warrior, is a player big time. Kieran has seen love come to nothing but pain for those involved and he wants nothing to do with it. Prior to being marked as the Fox shifter he worked as a trainer with the Therian Guard and is able to take on his role at Feral House with little fuss.

The problem arises when the 17 trapped shifter spirits mark Therian's and what seems to be a gift turns out to be a trap used by the Mage, they have infected the new Feral's with dark magic and are using them against the original Feral Warriors. We are soon taken into a strange world of magic, attraction and hidden pain when Lyon's mate the Feral's Radiant is kidnapped and Fox and Melisande end up working together to return her.

Ms. Palmer touches on some very real issues that people who have been assaulted face and I find the way she has Fox work with Mel to get past the destructive feelings and the distrust she has is done well. The sexual tension builds but the overall heat or sex scenes if you will are not really explicit, the romance is there but the sex scenes come across to me as hurried and unnecessary. I think that perhaps in an effort to not break the flow and tension of the rescue of Kara they were kept short however I would have liked a little bit more when it came to these scenes so they didn't feel like they were just shoved in.

I enjoyed A Love Untamed a great deal, even when I started out skeptical of Melisande being the romantic heroine.
I give this 4 out of 5 flowers

ARC Review & Giveaway Honey Red by Liz Crowe

Two men suffering from visible and invisible wounds meet by chance circumstance.

Nick Traynor and Ian Donovan spend a lot of time and effort keeping it very hot, only physical, and purely superficial. But when their resolve starts to slip, a woman is tossed into their midst.

Hannah Williams wants nothing more than to do her job until something better comes along, but is forced to own up to her visceral reaction to Ian, her new boss, and later to Nick, his sometimes lover.

Lust has a funny way of turning into companionship, and eventually evolving into a deeper connection. Faced with the internal and external complications of their potential three-way relationship, they begin to heal and trust, to consider that it might work. Then life tosses them a hardball, forcing them back into their respective corners, where each must choose what is most important.

Three people determined not to commit, thrown together by fate and undeniable attraction--their nights heat up and emotions run high in spite of a claimed mutual desire to "keep it simple." In the process of honest self-discovery, can they learn that while love is never simple, it is definitely worth fighting for?

Honey Red is the latest offering by Liz Crowe who has made her mark in the world of erotic romance by telling it like it is, she writes "romance for real life" and I must say I like it.

In Honey Red we meet Ian Donovan self professed bad boy and bi-sexual. Ian thinks of himself as a bad boy but he proves he is a man of worth when he is needed by family he is there. When Ian meets Nick Traynor he has been celebrate for a while after the last woman he was in a relationship with threw him a curve ball.

Nick Traynor has been a Marine until he was wounded in combat and lost his sight, he is drawn to Ian but he refuses to complicate Ian's life any further by becoming involved in anything serious. With Ian's brother and Nick's sister involved it is hard to stay away from Ian, not that Nick wants to really.

If the dynamics of Nick and Ian's relationship wasn't difficult enough Hannah Williams is thrown into the mix when she takes a job she desperately needs working as the marketing and sales director for Ian and Gavin's microbrewery. Before she even meets Ian she is fantasizing about the man who belongs to the voice on the phone.
They have chemistry off the charts but what will Ian do about his feelings for Nick.

When the three of them engage in a threesome with the idea that its "just about the sex" what will happen when they start feeling things for each other. Will they ever be able to make something work out without one or more of them getting hurt?

Ms. Crowe does a fantastic job bringing you into the lives and the minds of her characters, she is able to let you feel the confusion, anger and resentment of being injured and made blind. She takes you into the hearts of her characters and you feel the emotions they have the good, the bad and the sexy.

I enjoyed the journey this threesome takes and give Honey Red a 4 out of 5 flower review.

Excerpt:
Alyssa knelt down beside him, took his hand. “We’re going to a movie. You okay here with Ian?” she whispered. He nodded but was very much not sure that he would be. The dog whimpered.
“Later brother,” Gavin called out. “Talk soon Nick. Good luck next week with the new job.”
Ian walked into the house with the couple, leaving Nick alone with his swirling thoughts and pounding skull. Brutus repositioned to Nick’s left, between him and the chair Ian had just vacated. He put his huge head on Nick’s hand. “Dude,” Nick said softly. “I think I just figured out why you’re upset. And let me just tell you now, it’s okay. I’m okay. I’m … agitated, but it’s normal.” He patted the dog’s nose, then leaned back and stretched his legs out in front of him, relieving the pressure building once more under his jeans.

He heard Ian rummaging around in the kitchen, opening and closing the fridge. Nick took a long, deep breath and made a decision. He smiled when Ian pressed the cold water bottle to his shoulder and took it, but then set it on the table that he knew was to his front right, where it always was. His mind kept roiling but he kept a lid on his urge to suck in a breath when he sensed Ian pulling a chair up on his other side, avoiding the guard dog. “I don’t think he likes me,” the man declared.
Nick put a hand on Ian’s leg.. He heard the other man’s breath hitch, and would swear on a stack of procedure manuals he heard his heartbeat increase. Don’t be ridiculous, you can’t hear a heartbeat. But he smiled, and leaned back, leaving his fingers trailing along the denim covering Ian’s thigh.

“Oh he’s fine. But I think I figured out how in tune to me he actually is.”
“Oh?” Ian touched his fingers, brushed the back of Nick’s hand once, then again, making him shiver.
“Yeah, I think he senses how god damned horny I am. Since he has no frame of reference for it, it’s making him nervous, protective.”
“Wow,” Ian leaned over and Nick could feel the other man’s lips near his throat. “Impressive,” He said, putting his hand over Nick’s erection.
“Yeah,” Nick croaked out, suddenly nervous. “So, I’m typically not…”
“Shh…” Ian’s hand left his cock, made its way up his torso, and wound around the back of his neck. “You are pretty amazing.”
“No, not really. Just blind. Without a real job. Living in my sister’s house.”
“But you look damn good doing all that, trust me.”
“You make a point of seducing blind guys you just met?”
“I didn’t just meet you. I remember you from a few months…before.”

Nick shivered again. This whole thing was somehow right and wrong at the same time. He needed a physical connection, bad, but was unsure if it should be with Ian Donovan. This, of course coming from his now humming and thankfully pain-free brain while his body screeched at him to grab the guy and kiss him.
Nick sighed when Ian’s fingers twined in his newly grown hair. He hadn’t had hair this long in over ten years. He’d forgotten what color it was. He sighed, raised his face to the cooling night breeze when Ian’s lips found his jaw and made their slow way down his neck, then up. “You are…very attractive.” Ian’s words made their presence known, curling in and around Nick’s amped up libido and making him grit his teeth.

Excerpt NC17:
“Hey,” she said, smiling and scratching the seeing-eye dog between the ears. She looked up, letting her gaze take in the full Marine dress uniform of the man attached to the animal. The crisp, formal clothes seemed to hang on him, even though he was fit, but it was obvious at one time he had been even bigger. His classical, masculine V-shape was breathtaking. His shoulders were broad but not bulky, his jaw firm, clean and the rest of his face at that moment showed stress that marred its model-like perfection. His golden yellow hair was thick, and touched the color of the uniform jacket. She bit her lip and dispelled the sudden erotic loop of imagery—Ian and this man, together. “Hi,” she said, holding out a hand. “I’m Hannah.”

His face turned to hers, and his smile was so incredibly sexy and innocent at the same time her heart started pounding. He held onto her a few seconds longer than was polite. She tugged but he wouldn’t let her go. “I hear your heart,” he said, quietly.
“Oh, wow, that’s…um, cool.” She had no idea what to do with her arms, hands, or heartbeat. Jamie was all over the dog and Brutus was panting and wagging his tail like mad. The party flowed around them, getting louder by the minute. Suddenly, Hannah wanted to be alone. Or more precisely she wanted to be alone with the man in front of her. He wore his emotional pain like a medal on his uniform. And something about him compelled her to want to help—or possibly it was because Ian still loved him. Wow. This could get messy. She squared her shoulder and decided to stick with usually worked best for—brutally direct. “You must be Nick.”

His grin faded slightly. “Yeah, I guess I am the only blind ex-Marine with a dog date here, huh?”
She leaned into him, determined to keep to the path of directness. “It’s okay. I know about you and Ian”
He stiffened. “Really. Well, tell me something then, Hannah.” He put his lips near her ear. The overwhelming compulsion to put hands on him made her knees wobbly. She gripped the chair back. The party noises kept ramping up. But she barely heard them, too mesmerized by Nick’s face, voice, and the warm hand in the small of her back. “Tell me what you think you know about me. And Ian.” His lips tickled, making her break out in goose bumps. She turned her head, saw Ian, caught his eye. And it gave her strength.

“I know he loves you.” She said, then took Jamie’s hand and was about to lead him away before she said or did anything she couldn’t take back with the sad-faced, ridiculously handsome blind man in the Marine uniform.
But Nick gripped her arm lighting a small fire on her skin. The dog snuffled around her leg, whining as if sensing his master’s distress. “The hell you say.” He said, his jaw tight. “Besides, he has the smell of you all over him right now. I don’t know if it’s your perfume or shampoo or what, but you smell like rich, sweet honey. And I can tell he’s been dipping into it—into you. Not that I blame him.”

“I don’t wear perfume and use unscented shampoo.” Her knees shook at his innocuous yet sexy words. She ran a fingertip down his face, unable to resist.
“Don’t,” he flinched away. “I’m not interested in your type.” But his low voice said otherwise.

What if the myths of ancient Greece weren't myths after all? If you are an American archaeologist you have to find the proof to secure your financing and prove you aren't a nutcase. That is what archaeologist Beau Morris is trying to do with the labyrinth from the myth of the Minotaur.

Ariadne is a nymph she and her sisters have been charged with keeping the secrets of the sisterhood and of her Goddess Epione, part of those secrets is a curse against any man that they may love.

I loved this take on the mythology of ancient Greece, I love to see more books taking on the more minor gods and goddesses that we don't all immediately know about.
Ms. Winters takes the mythological beings and places them in modern society. We are taken on a wild roller coaster of emotions when Ariadne is torn between duty to all she has known and love.
I found the characters engaging and there rolls in the story for the most part clear, I enjoyed how the Minotaur was worked into the modern world a great deal. I also felt that this was an emotionally balanced book all of the weight of the hard decisions isn't just left to the heroine but Beau has some really hard issues of his own to deal with.

I am looking forward to the continuation of this series and give The Nymph's Labyrinth a 4 out of 5 flower review

Excerpt:
“It’s not good for the baby. Have you seen a doctor yet?”

Ryelee shook her head. “I didn’t want to spend the money.”

“Let me get some tea to warm you up, and we’ll have a good talk.”

Ryelee wondered what a good talk consisted of. She wasn’t sure what it meant, but at least he hadn’t thrown her out in the street. Maybe he would let her stay until she found a new job. She hugged herself as she sat on the couch, waiting.

Clint walked into the family room carrying two cups of herbal tea. He placed them on the coffee table and sat down next to Ryelee. “I feel as though I’ve gotten to know you a bit while you’ve been living here,” Clint began. “I find it hard to believe that Dottie’s accusations of you entertaining men are true.”

Ryelee took a sip of her tea. It warmed her. She looked into Clint’s dark eyes and weakly smiled. No one had ever asked for her side of the story before. She swallowed hard, and wondered if Clint would believe a word she said. Looking into his whiskey colored eyes again, she saw compassion.

“My father drinks and gambles a lot. After my mother died, he got worse. There were many times that I went to bed, my stomach hurting from hunger. More often than not we couldn't pay our bills. There were many nights that we had no heat. Thank God for our fireplace. Once there was a knock on the door, and two men pushed me aside and took both mine and my father’s beds. He’d lost them playing cards. Eventually the church gave me a mattress. They also gave me clothes. My father ran them off. They didn't come around anymore.”

Placing her teacup on the coffee table, she wondered how to go on. “Two months ago, he…he bet my virginity. He lost, and he demanded that I pay his debt. I was never so frightened. Who does such a thing? A man took me kicking and screaming to a warehouse or something. You can probably imagine what happened. It was the worst hell I’ve ever been through. The whole time I kept thinking why. What had I done to deserve this?”

“What did the police have to say?” Clint asked in a calm voice, but his face screamed outrage.

Ryelee felt like crumbling, but she gave him a shrug. “My father refused to allow me to go to the police. He wouldn’t even let me go to the hospital. I hurt so badly that I was bedridden for a week. He, the man, beat me pretty badly. I felt as though he had torn my insides. My father locked me in my room until I promised to keep quiet about the whole incident.”

Demise of the Vampire Queen, the final book in Jodie Pierce's Vampire Queen Trilogy

Photobucket

Jodie, thank you for agreeing to come on My Reading Obsession and tell us a little about yourself and your work :O)

Tell me when did you know you wanted to be an author? What age were you when you started to write?

I started writing in middle school but started dreaming about a career in it in high school when I received positive feedback from my English teacher.

Your books The Vampire Queen and The Vampire Chronicles are obviously about vampires, where does your interest in vampires come from?
I wish I knew. I just remember laying in bed one hot summer night and wrapping the sheet around my neck so ‘the vampires couldn’t get me’. I was about 8 yrs old but don’t know if I saw a movie with them or what even made me aware of the situation.

What is the first vampire novel you remember reading and how does the other vampire books you have read effect your writing?
When I read the book, The Vampire Lestat and that’s what helped me decide to write about vampires. Before that it had been about high school crushes, etc-childish stuff. Also, when I read Anne Rice’s Sleeping Beauty series that I decided I could start writing erotica as well. Christine Feehan has had a hand in encouraging me in that genre as well.

Who is your favorite vampire male and female? (other than your own of course) Aalyiah from Queen of the Damned.

Would you want to be a vampire?
Absolutely, as long as I could take my hubby along with me as my companion. I wouldn’t want to be a vampire alone without him.

Okay rapid fire questions:
Coke or pepsi Coke
Cake or icecream Ice cream
Halloween or Christmas HALLOWEEN!!!
Doc Martins or Prada Neither
Morning person or night owl Night Owl
Kilt or Wranglers Wranglers
Ebooks or paper Both

Thanks so much for spending this time with us Jodie!
