Dare to Believe by Dana Marie Bell

He'll fulfill her wildest fantasies... but only if she believes.

The Gray Court, Book 1

Leo Dunne has been searching his entire life for the one person born just for him. He finds her working in his own company, but the shy little Ruby Halloway constantly hides from him. He hatches a devilish plot with her best friend to bring her out of her shell, and the result proves her desire is more than a match for his own.

Ruby has had the hots for her boss for some time now, but she knows business and pleasure shouldn't mix. While that can't stop a girl from dreaming, she sticks by her guns and does her best never to be alone with the handsome CEO. Until the company masquerade party, where she discovers a passion with him that leaves a mark on her soul.

A family emergency calls Leo away, and rather than spend one night out of Ruby's arms, he convinces her to go with him. With his brother's life on the line, it's vital she learn how to deal with who, and what, her new lover really is...before it's too late.

Having met Ms. Bell at the RAW convention I fell in love with her amazing sense of humor. I had to find out if that translated to her writing. I am happy to report that indeed it does. I started with the first book in The Gray Court series Dare to Believe and I am hooked. Ms. Bell will be one of my auto buy authors for here on out.

Dare to Believe introduces us to the Dunne family as well as the world in which they live that includes the courts of the Fae as well as the politics involved in the courts. The world building is seamless with the story and flows naturally and enjoyably.

The love story between Leo and Ruby is fantastic and definitely steamy enough to get your motor going. With Leo being the hot alpha male we love and Ruby being smart but unsure of her own beauty they make a great couple and the humor and witty-ness of the author shine through in the dialog and situations that the couple and the family finds themselves in.

This is a complete story but it does leave the setup open for the coming books and if you are anything like me you will sit down and read the whole series end to end.

I went to the RAW weekend hosted by Lora Leigh

I was so excited to go to my first convention and even more excited that I was going to meet Anna from Reading Between The Lines, but most excited to meet some of my most favorite authors and have the chance to talk with and have books signed by them.

We had a princess party (sorry I forgot my camera for that one), and 80's dance and a pj party (most of the pics are from the pj party just in case you wonder about the pig tails and cupcakes;O) We also had a chance to pick up books and have them signed on the last day. I wore myself out but I had so much fun, and I want to share that with you. What follows are pictures from that weekend. I will mail an stuffed envelope of swag from that event to everyone who comments and tells which of the authors I got my picture taken with is your favorite.
Be sure to leave me your email so I can contact you and find out where to mail the swag. Because of the cost of shipping internationally this if for readers here in the US, I will have to come up with something just for my non US readers soon. Thanks for being the best blog followers around :O)
Jayne Rylon and Mari Carr (and of course me) What a duo these two are. Off to the right you can see Anna trying to sneak out of the shot LOL
Carrie Ann Ryan and me (LOVE her)
Ranae Rose (so cute with her little baby belly), me and Stephanie Julian

Monica Burns an myself (she is such a hoot)

Mari Carr, found out we graduated from high school the same year! WOOT now if that year was oh about 15 years later than it was I would be thrilled LOL :O)

Isabella LaPearl has to be one of the most genuinely nice people I have ever met, an amazing woman no wonder she is such an amazing author.

Shayla Black, thank you for letting us come crash your party. Total fan girl moment for me.

I learned at the convention that two of my auto buy authors are the same amazing woman. Sophie Oak aka Lexi Blake

I also want to mention that I met some amazing women at RAW that were just readers that came to have a good time with the authors. They are amazing women and I hope that I will be able to keep up with them for years to come. Thank you for your friendship.

Here’s more about Her Wicked Angel, including an excerpt from this long angel romance novel.

Her Wicked Angel – Excerpt

“Come, we must move.” Asmodeus scooped her up into his arms and beat his wings before she could even form a response, taking off into the crisp night air.

It was getting chilly.

Liora used it as an excuse to cuddle up to his bare chest and was thankful he only had partial armour. It was much nicer curling up against hard hot flesh than it would have been rubbing against cold metal plates.

“You’re going to be in trouble, aren’t you?” she said and the breeze carried her voice over his shoulder.

He beat his shadowy black wings and took them higher, until they were gliding above the city and she couldn’t take her eyes off how beautiful it was. All the lights twinkled in the darkness and cars streamed down streets forming bright slashes of red and white. Boats caused the wide river to glow in places. The Eiffel Tower sparkled in the distance.

“Perhaps,” he whispered and she felt his gaze shift to her, boring into the side of her face. “But I have a feeling that you may be worth it.”

She smiled at that. How could anyone think this man pure evil? She had only had to speak to him to know that while he held darkness inside him, and was capable of great cruelty and violence, there was still some good in him, hidden away beneath the vicious exterior he wore like a shield.

She turned her head to look at him but he moved his gaze away from her, looking down at the city as they flew over it instead. She drank him in, studying the nuances of his expression as his golden gaze flitted around, taking in the scene stretching below them. The wind ruffled his wild black hair and she ached to brush her fingers through it, combing it back and feeling its silkiness just as nature was allowed to do.

“Will the Devil send more men for me?” She feared the answer to that question even though she already knew it deep in her heart.

The black slashes of his eyebrows met in a frown and his golden eyes darted to her. “Yes.”

“Will you fight them?” Her voice trembled and she hoped he would think it was the wind that caused it, not the fear growing in her heart. She had never been this afraid before, had always faced things head-on and without flinching, even as a child. The thought that the Devil wanted her for some nefarious reason and had sent his best man to retrieve her, marking her as important to him, made cold steal into her veins and sent a shiver through her soul.

Asmodeus hesitated and something surfaced in his eyes, something that set her on edge. He looked uncertain.

Over a year ago, Serenity had called and told her that they had to cancel their get together because something had happened to Apollyon. Heaven had exercised its will on him and had controlled him, forcing him to do their bidding against his will, and it had shaken the powerful male.

If Heaven held that power over Apollyon, did that mean Hell and the Devil wielded it over Asmodeus?

“I will try.” He looked away again, the sombre note to his deep voice and the fraction of his emotions that she could sense with her power conveying that he meant it but he didn’t believe he would be able to defeat whatever force the Devil sent after him.

All the more reason to ask Apollyon and Serenity for help, but she still couldn’t bring herself to raise it with him, not while everything felt so tentative and liable to fall apart if she mentioned the other angel.

“Perhaps you would be safer away from me.”

Liora stared at him, shock rippling through her. “No. I’m safer with you.”

“Do not fool yourself, Liora. I feel your fear. I thrive on that emotion. It gives me pleasure as much as anger and rage, and pain.” His voice gained a dark edge that echoed within his power and she frowned when she realised what he was doing. He was driving a wedge between them. He meant to make her leave. “You are safer away from me.”

“I am safer with you. If anyone has the power to protect me, it’s you, Asmodeus.”

“Or Apollyon. He would be the better choice. He is always the better choice.” The darkness in his voice turned to bitterness that she could feel lacing his power and she held on to him.

“How do you know he’s the better choice for me? Isn’t it my choice?” She glared at him now and then it faded away when she caught the tiny almost imperceptible grain of fear hidden beneath his other emotions.

Fear that he would fail her?

Or fear that he would end up doing as his dark master commanded and would hurt her?

He thrived on seeing others hurt and their suffering. He was afraid that the Devil would make him harm her and that he would end up enjoying it. She had thought the Devil would be sick and twisted, but this was taking sick and twisted to a whole new level.

“Asmodeus,” she whispered and he looked at her, his beautiful golden eyes void of any warmth. She wished she could touch his cheek and reassure him somehow, but she didn’t want to loosen her grip on him when they were so high above the city. “You will not fail me.”

He looked away again and uncertainty filled his eyes for a brief few seconds before they cleared again.

“Apollyon will not fail you. I am only a shadow of that male.”

It struck her that he was having one serious existential crisis and she was in part to blame for it. Her careless words when they had first met had dealt blows and wounded him, and now he couldn’t shake the doubts that she had placed in his head. She wished she had the ability to turn back time and relive that moment all over again with the knowledge she had now, but even she wasn’t that powerful.

All she could do was try to smooth things out and heal the wounds she had unwittingly inflicted with her words.

“You’re not a shadow… not any more than I’m a shadow of my cousin. She’s so damn good and caring, and I’m reckless and wild, and liable to go off demon hunting without telling anyone, and I’m forever getting into scrapes. Everyone tells me I should be more like her… but I’m not her. We share blood but we’re not the same person. We couldn’t be more different.” Liora leaned in and pressed a kiss to his cheek, lingering with her lips against his cool flesh.

He paused, beating his wings to keep them steady in the night air high above the glittering lights of Paris.

“You won’t fail me, Asmodeus. I’m choosing you,” she whispered against his skin and then settled her head on his shoulder, waiting for him to rebuff her.

He didn’t.

She looked down at the quiet world below them.

“Do you like the view?” she said to fill the silence.

“It seems alien to me… bright and colourful… strange… unsettling.” He didn’t sound as if he liked it. “Hell is a black cavernous ceiling above a forbidding harsh landscape. Rivers of molten lava and lakes of fire provide the only natural light. It is… different to this world. You would think it bleak, desolate and dangerous.”

Everything Apollyon had told her it was.

She frowned and looked at Asmodeus. “Then you’ve never seen the stars?”

His golden gaze drew away from the world below them and rose to meet hers. “No.”

“Will you take me somewhere?”

He nodded. “Where?”

Liora bravely took one hand away from his neck and Asmodeus’s grip on her increased, drawing her closer to him, filling her with a sense of safety that felt strange considering he was apparently made of pure evil. She didn’t think a male with nothing but evil in his heart would care much about whether she fell to her death or not. A male who was only evil and nothing good would have laughed as she fell and ensured he was close enough to get a good view when she splatted against the pavement.

She pointed to the distance, to the darkness beyond the city boundaries. “Take me out there. Take me to the stars.”

Unedited Excerpt:

After what felt like watching Ivanov stand there and stare at her for a century, he moved. Slowly leaning in towards her. Their faces were now only inches apart. So close she could feel his short rapid breathing through his nose as it brushed her face. For the first time since the man walked into her building, all of the hairs on the back of her neck stood on end. That scary focus of his amazing green gold eyes lasered right in on her own eyes, when his voice rumbled. “You’ve got it all wrong.”

“I do?” Elena murmured suddenly shakily. Her inner alarms were blaring. Danger. Danger. Danger. It took everything she had not too slowly slide her hand back and put it on the butt of her own weapon holstered on her hip.

“Yes you do. You see, I’d much rather be here with you.”

Did he just purr that? “And why would you rather be here with me?” A louder rumble seemed to come from the vicinity of his chest. What the hell was that noise anyways?

“I’d rather be here with you because I don’t do spoiled, whiny, superficial, bleached out teenagers. What I do like are mature brunettes who think they know it all. And I like them,” He paused for a second and another loud rumble sounded, “because after I break them in with a

well-deserved spanking, make them see that they’re not as big and bad as they think they are, they end up knowing that they’ll never meet anyone like me ever again. Because unlike all the men they may have had before me, I do, in fact, know what to do with a woman’s body. And anyone they have after me will pale in comparison to what I gave them. I like knowing that I took a woman who isn’t a naive little virgin to bed and debauched her to such a ridiculous degree that she’ll know she’s now just a bit dirty, but in such a delicious way. I like to ruin grown women you see. They’re more of a challenge. Would you like a demonstration?”

Elena was damn near panting now. Man, that voice of his was practically a purr that seemed to resonate all the way through her body until it was buzzing through her girly parts. It was such an amazing feeling that she was considering giving him a new nickname. The Talking Vibrator. Her own breath was coming in small, rapid pants now, and suddenly she realized that she’d not been this turned in a long, long time. What in the hell was it about this man that was pushing all her buttons? WAIT. It didn’t matter what it was about him that sent her libido into a frenzy. She couldn’t have him. He was forbidden fruit for a couple of different reasons.

First of all, she was investigating him on behalf of the Major General. Second of all… well, the first reason was all she needed. But just as Elena was about to open her mouth and tell him no, she didn’t want a demonstration, she wanted a confession, he did something that shocked the shit out of her.

He took in a long exaggerated inhale, nostrils flaring much like that lion she likened him too earlier, and then his tongue came out to lick his lips like he was savoring something extravagantly tasty. “Damn you smell good all pissed off and turned on.”

 photo Review.jpg

When Kira first lays eyes on a picture of her bosses son Blake she is instantly attracted but at the same time has a boyfriend and doesn't want the hassle of an inter-racial relationship.

Blake wants Kira from the moment he sees her across the room, even when he thinks she is his dads date.

Kira and Blake have a lot to overcome to get to the happy ever after at the end, will assumptions and misunderstandings ruin that chance?

I liked the story this book had to tell, I loved the way that Blake and Kira overcome some pretty ingrained conditioning to make their love work. I thought that some parts of the story could have been filled out a bit more and found some of the imagery a bit wordy, however the story as a whole is good and it was a quick read. A lot is made in this book about the concerns of Kira about an interracial relationship and I loved that with Blake it was never even a thought that concerned him he fell for Kira not the color of her skin but the content of her soul.

Excerpt: EXPLICIT

“All these months,” he whispered. “You made me need you so bad I thought I’d go insane.”

Kira knew exactly what he meant because she’d suffered the same agony. The deprivation had cost her plenty. She couldn’t eat, couldn’t sleep. He’d been like a drug in her system that had her craving her next big hit.

He taught her body all over again to want, to need. Kira knew this was how it should’ve been, that first time. This baring heat. This fervency. This…oneness. Built up slow over time and made to last forever.

One large hand splayed across her waist, pinning her down to the bed. Kira let out a gasp, eyes flying open as Blake suddenly turned rougher, more dominant. He seized her lips, and plunged deep with his tongue, making her dizzy. He broke the kiss and left her panting, inching his lips over her arched neck to her pleasure spot right beneath her jaw. She quivered right to the tips of her toes.

His hand on her belly shifted up to her breasts, kneading them with unmistakable entitlement. He touched her like he owned her and she liked it. She liked it very much. She liked that when she arched against him and rubbed herself into his cock, his breath caught in a hiss. He burned for her as hotly as ever before, maybe even more than the first time. Definitely more. His desire was palpable, sending electric charges from his body to hers in a magnetizing transmission of pure lust. Kira’s fingers grappled for fistfuls of the sheets and held on tight, her spine bent back almost in half as Blake’s attention focused on her breasts. This time it was his mouth, tonguing her nipples until they beaded and tingled.

Check out my review of this fantastic book from June 25, 2013

Excerpt:

Belle headed out of the room first to disappear in the parking lot while the guys proceeded to file out a few minutes later. Being at the back of the group I missed what made the guys catcall

and laugh until I came into full view of Belle leaned up against a black jacked up Ford F350 decked out with a ram air hood, brush guard, monster-sized tires and a banner on the top of the windshield that read ‘G.R.I.T.S.’.

Lucas’s slightly New York accented voice sounded confused as he asked, “G.R.I.T.S.? Isn’t that like a food or something?”

Logan clapped him on the shoulder as barks of laughter echoed in the parking lot. “Naw, buddy. That stands for ‘Girls Raised In The South’. You could say that Agent Roberts is showing off her southern pride a bit, that’s all. It’s a damn good thing to be proud of, too.”

Belle climbed up into the cab of the truck. Still hanging out of the door a bit she yelled, “Come on Sullivan brothers. We’re gonna have some fun before we head to the bar!”

Declan and Riley Sullivan looked wary. “What kind of fun exactly?”

“Muddin’ and Jason Aldean. Let’s go, baby!” The heavy rumble of her engine came to life as ‘She’s Country’ blasted out of its open windows.

The Sullivan brothers looked at each other nervously. Riley spoke in a low voice to Declan, “You think she’s alright upstairs or should I be worried?” Declan clapped his brother on the back before hopping up into the passenger side of the truck.

I was insanely jealous as the truck tore out of the parking lot to head down the highway while the rest of us piled into our respective vehicles to leave. It almost felt as if she was trying to rub my nose in one of our best memories. When you lived in a small southern town, out in the middle of nowhere, muddin’ with your buddies, your girl, and pilfered beer where you could cut loose and be free was one of the few options for entertainment. There went my buddies. There went my girl. Here I still stood, looking like a jackass.

Jaxon watched the retreating vehicle with a mix of amusement and trepidation. Turning to Sheriff Jenkins he asked, “Should I be worried about any of that?” His finger pointing in the direction of where Belle’s truck had already disappeared.

The Sheriff’s easy smile didn’t seem to convince Jaxon. “Not at all, Commander Wall. Annabelle is harmless. Swear.”

I snorted. “Tell that to the guy she knocked unconscious her senior year. He was twice her size.”

Sheriff Jenkins’s eyebrows shot to his hairline as he turned to face me in the back seat. “You knew Annabelle in high school?”

My mouth kicked up in a half smile. “Yeah, you could say that. We grew up in the same small town. Belle and I were as close as you could get until I left for the Army just after graduation.”

The Sheriff’s eyebrows pulled down into an intense expression as something flashed over his face before he could cover it up. He quickly turned around to start the car. “I’m just going to turn on the radio. Hope you don’t mind.”

The radio kicked on and a local country station came on. All conversation in the car stopped. The last look the Sheriff had made bothered me. There was something there that made my instincts flare up. The Sheriff knew something. What in the hell could that possibly be?

The action happens quick and without a lot of back story to have this come out novella length. I enjoyed the chemistry that is immediate between Brody and Sadie. I liked the paranormal element to her stalker and the bond that Sadie and Brody share to overcome the trials in their path to happiness.

This time of year with the kids in school you have lots of chances to sit and wait this is the perfect length book for those times and you can get in a fun love story while you are at it.

EXCERPT:

"It's dangerous out here." His speech was slow and his voice gravelly. The tone sent a shiver down Brody's spine.

Clad in black and riding a black stallion, the demon slayer rested one arm on the horn of his saddle. Tipping his hat back, he stared hard at Brody. Silence of the night engulfed them.

His square jawline and rugged features reminded Brody of a man who never settled down, one who chased sunrises. His body appeared lean and powerful, his stance intimidating a silver aura emanating from him. So still and solemn Brody wondered at his story.

"Dangerous everywhere." Brody didn't think he'd want to meet this man in a dark alley. He didn't know why, perhaps instinct, but Brody was sure the demon slayer was also a shifter.

"Seen that man over yonder, just a shadow now but he's real and treacherous." Slayer pointed behind him. "He's hunting a lady. Is that you, ma’am? If so, you need to take care."

The Slayer's question irritated Brody. At his sides his fists tightened. "Don't think that's any of your business. Maybe you should just ride on and not look back this way."

"It is if you want my help, but doesn't sound as if you do. I'm a friend." An owl cried out. Then as if in answer, a long low howl filled the silence.

To Brody the man appeared ready to unleash all the power he seemed to hold in check. "Can always use an extra pair of friendly hands." He tried to calm his breathing, but the pulse of the night set the pace. Blood surged through heated veins and the adrenalin rush was intoxicating. Brody was ready for a fight, but he needed to get Sadie somewhere safe.

"So, is the Chullachaqui after your woman?" Slayer pushed back his hat then gazed pointedly at Sadie. "She's a pretty one."

Body liked the sound of that. My woman. Sadie was his she just wouldn't admit it yet. But he also didn't like the way the demon slayer stared at her. "I don't know and that's the truth. We think he might be, but we don't know why. Besides, how do I know I can trust you?"

"Best you figure it out soon. He's gettin' closer. It's just a matter of time. I've been riding shotgun, and I've notice you've got a couple of friends backin' you up too. You're going to need them."

"Siblings." Brody felt the rise of anticipation. The fight would come. The only question was when. "Are they back there now?"
