Author Interview and Review: Predator's Kiss (Gemini Island Shifters #1) by Rosanna Leo

 photo BookTour.jpg

Bear shifter Ryland Snow just wants peace. The peace and quiet afforded him at his woodsy retreat, the Ursa Fishing Lodge. As owner of the lodge, Ryland enjoys the tranquil life he’s created among his fellow shifters. He lives to maintain a safe haven for them, away from meddlesome human eyes.

When his rock star brother arrives, bringing trouble in the form of a possible hitman, Ryland is incensed. He’s been cleaning up Soren’s messes as long as he can remember, and is tired of his brother’s lecherous exploits.

Things go from bad to worse when Lia Goodblood stumbles upon Ryland and his lodge. Yes, the reclusive erotica author is easy on the eyes, but the human woman is more trouble than she’s worth. To say nothing of her bizarre fear of furry creatures.

Ryland determines to rid himself of her presence. But when he learns she’s on the run from a crazed fan, Ryland’s protective bear instincts flare. And the bear won’t be denied.

Rosanna thank you so much for coming on My Reading Obsession blog today, I love your work and am beyond thrilled to have you here with us.

Thanks Carin!! I am thrilled to be here and I appreciate your kind enthusiasm!

Your past books have been about mythological Gods, this latest is about shifters. Will we be getting more Gods in the future? What about more shifters perhaps a giraffe shifter?

LOL- no, no giraffe shifters, although I have toyed with the idea of an evil possum shifter...we shall see which way the wind blows. ;) I do love my Greek gods and definitely plan to return to that series as well. Some of my readers want a Hades book and an Artemis book. I think I'd do Artemis next because I just love her and she needs some good lovin.'

Do you have a favorite myth or God?

Apollo has always been my fave, which was why I had to write Sunburn about him. I love his blond hair and pointy golden arrows (ahem) and his big muscles. I also love that he had such a tortured love history. He had a very sordid past, which I tried to use in my book as well.

What is the hardest part of the writing process for you? Do you have a favorite part or a part you dread?

Nothing is dreadful for me when it comes to writing. Even edits and rewrites are processes which I embrace because I always learn something. My Liquid Silver editors have been so smart and such a guidance to me. As far as the hard parts, well, when you've read the same manuscript 50 times during edits, you do begin to get fuzzy vision. It's hard to pick out errors at that point.

Being Canadian do you find that you have sayings or slang that you have to “standardize” so those of us in the US aren’t wondering what you are talking about eh?

LOL. Well you got the big one. "Eh" is very important and most of my sentences are colored by this delightful little term. Luckily our lingo is pretty much the same with a few exceptions. The big Canadian thing all Americans should know is our Tim Horton's coffee. It's our big coffee chain and is spreading into the northern part of the States now. Drink it, my friends, and drink hearty. I suggest a "double double"- two creams, two sugars- the perfect Canadian beverage!

If you were stranded on a desert isle and you had one hot celebrity and an unlimited supply of Nutella which celeb would it be?

Carin, you know me so well. ;) Hmm...Nutella...and two men. Richard Armitage, my fave Brit actor, and Joel Edgerton, my fave Aussie actor. I'm a greedy girl. Hope those boys are taking vitamins for stamina.

Thank you again Rosanna for your time and for the hours of reading pleasure you have provided me and the rest of the My Reading Obsession followers.

Thanks for having me, Carin. Big hugs back, and thanks so much for your support! Muah!

Taking a step away from her usual mythological gods Rosanna Leo's newest book Predator's Kiss is about brothers who are bear shifters and a very frightened erotic romance writer who is being stalked.

With the unique idea of a vacation lodge and private island for shifters, Predator's Kiss is funny, sexy and even suspenseful. Ms Leo has a way of painted pictures with her stories so that you can imagine the wild things in her books actually happening. I fell in love with the grumpy grizzly shifter, who is also the hero of Predator's Kiss, Ryland. His younger brother Soren is a pain as little brothers usually are but the love between the siblings comes through, and Lia (who you have to wonder if Rosanna didn't write a little like someone she knows) is a erotic romance writer and ends up on Gemini Island while trying to escape a stalking fan.

The bk is steamy in all the best ways and we also learn little tidbits about the mating habits of bears :O) Ry is strong, demanding, tender and protective. Lia can take whatever he can give her and more.

I understand that the next book in the series will feature Soren the polar bear shifter brother or Ryland. I will be looking to add that to my library as soon as it is available.

Don't Call Me Baby by Elizabeth Black

DON'T CALL ME 'BABY' is a fast-paced, quick-witted, sexy, novel about a young woman exploring her sexuality and the cultural morés she collides with on a daily basis.

It's 1983 in Maryland and Catherine Stone is sex on wheels. She plays the field the way men have done for aeons. Not content to strive for her MRS degree like so many young women her age, she seduces men of all stripes – married college professors, theatre students, virgins, complete strangers who intrigue her. She has already cost one man his job.

She asks herself lots of questions on her search to enjoy her sexuality. Why don't other women enjoy their sex as much as she does? Why do so many women and men look down on sexually free women, calling them sluts while sexually free men are called studs and Lotharios? She bucks at the double standards! Catherine has made no commitment to any man. She's free to explore and she gladly does so. No man can tie her down and no woman's judgment will stop her from playing the field to her heart's content.

Does she meet her match in a new man who introduces her to sexual bliss she had never before experienced? When she tries multiple partners and bondage for the first time as a submissive, she believes she's found the sexual bliss she is looking for – and with a man who not only introduces her to the fineries in life but also cares about her like no man ever has before.

Celebrate Don't Call Me Baby's TOP PICK review by buying it for 25% off at All Romance eBooks and Naughty Nights Press until May 31!

Don't Call Me Baby is a novel that falls into the New Adult literary category. The heroine is twenty-two and the book takes place on a college campus. These books explore the "terrifying and wonderful chasm between adolescence and adulthood", according to an article at USA Today. Aimed at readers outside high school and mostly at university, New Adult books often take place on college campuses starring characters with lots of drama in their lives. Too much sex. First time away from parents. And the drama. Lots and lots of drama. Ah, youth. LOL

Don't Call Me Baby is set on a college campus and my main character, Catherine Stone, enjoys exploring her sexuality and hopes to discover her place in the world. This is a very fast-paced book that many in college will be able to identify with, including sex with professors, bad boys, jealous women, the moral turpitude clause, summer jobs, juggling love and career, and more sex. Heh.

Don’t Call Me Baby is a fast paced, very adventurous romantic novel that will take readers on a roller coaster ride of scorching romantic fun. The main character, Catherine, is a woman after my own heart. She is young and fiercely independent, and beyond gorgeous. She is not wealthy, but she wants to live the good life and is not afraid to go get it. She is also very sexually liberated, and in the 1980’s this was sometimes a good thing, and sometimes a not so good thing. The story is so blisteringly hot and steamy; it’s difficult to put down. It took me back to a better time, and a time I enjoyed much more. It is a novel I truly enjoyed reading, and will definitely be reading time and time again. It’s not for the faint of heart, but it’s also not to be missed.

So many men, so little time. Catherine has a long list of men that she sees on a regular basis, and at the top of the list (for the moment, anyway) is Brian. He’s one of her professors at Quincy, and a married man, but that’s never been a problem. But he’s so demanding! So maybe some time apart will be just the trick. A summer theater camp at another local college for local teens should make him realize that Catherine is not his possession, right? That is, until she gets to the camp and meets the other counselors. Ryan is gorgeous, and the rest? Well, what’s a girl on her own to do? Why, enjoy as many as she can! In the meantime, Catherine will come to grips with her mind and her heart, and will figure out what she really wants in life.

Excerpt

[Intro: Catherine Stone is my heroine and the book's main character. She has taken a summer job at a college camp. Ryan is the older college professor in charge of the camp. KC (aka Casey) is one of the counselors who becomes one of Catherine's closest friends. DJ teaches drama at the camp. They are currently in an orientation meeting before camp begins.]

At that moment, a young man ran into the room in a blaze of jeans and oversized t-shirt. He tossed his backpack behind the chair next to DJ, and then plopped into a seat.
“Nice of you to drop by, KC.” Ryan said.
“Sorry I'm late. Ran a bit behind this morning.” He gave the crowd a big toothy grin, and leaned back in his chair until the front two legs were off the ground. Oh, boy. This guy is going to be fun. “Okay, alarm didn't go off. But I'm here. So… did I miss anything?”
“Not yet, but you did manage to be the center of attention again,” Ryan tried to sound miffed, but Catherine saw his dimples deepen as he tried not to smile. “We just did introductions. You can get to know everyone here a bit later. Now, I need to get started.”
The orientation went well. Catherine kept her legs up on the table, showing them off, and her stunt did not get past KC. His eyebrows shot up, and he blew a kiss in her direction. Catherine couldn't help but like him immediately. He seemed to be the type of guy who didn't take a thing seriously, and she liked to surround herself with people like that. KC’s silly mood was infectious, and soon with his carousing and smart-mouthed funny comments, everyone at the table was laughing. Monica and Ryan assigned each worker to a class. DJ and Catherine were to teach drama.
“I brought my accordion again,” KC said. “You know how much the kids loved me last year.”
“They cringed, KC,” DJ said. “Did you actually watch them when you played Freebird? On the accordion? You were not cool, dude. Try as you might.”
“I was the coolest guy in the room. You're just jealous because you can't pick out Freebird on that tin-plated noise machine you play.”
“It's a 12-string steel guitar, and I can pick out Freebird just fine.”
“Looks like Miss Longest-Legs-in-the-Universe here is also a guitarist. You two can play the theme to Deliverance to really get the kids in a good mood.”
“How'd you know I play the guitar?” Catherine stretched her legs in response to KC's ribbing. Her movement did not get past Ryan's attention. That pleased her to no end.
“I saw you arrive, and you hoisted that guitar over your head. I see a threesome in your future - no, not that kind! Get your mind out of the gutter!!” He laughed at his own joke, and so did everyone in the room, including Catherine. “Us, on guitars. You, DJ, and I. Scaring the kids to death with our bad renditions of Kumbaya. And there's no need to look so horrified. DJ is used to me picking on him. It's all in good fun. We've been best friends since we were in fourth grade.”
“And we've been at each other's throats ever since.” DJ said. “I'm glad we're going to teach the drama classes, Catherine. Your suggestion of improvs is perfect. After the meeting, want to do some brainstorming?”
“Sounds good to me. I have lots of good ideas.”
“Don't let him hog all the ideas,” KC said. “He's a born monopolizer.”
“Speak for yourself.”
“I do. All the time.” He winked at her, and DJ busted out laughing. It was good to see DJ's handsome smile. It made his demeanor seem less standoffish. She figured out his relationship with Casey. They balanced each other out very nicely. DJ was the imposing Pontiac GTO and Casey was the Triumph Spitfire.
When Monica learned that Catherine played the piano, guitar, and flute, she immediately added her name to the list of people to play music around the campfire at night. DJ would join her on the guitar and KC on the accordion. What is it with the initials for names around here? Did their parents name them by choosing two different blocks from a game of Scrabble? It wasn't required that she play every night, but it sure sounded like fun.
Once the meeting was over, and everyone left the room to go about their business, Catherine ran until she caught up with KC and DJ. But she didn't leave without giving Ryan a coy smile and a wiggle of her hips. His gaze traveled to parts of her body that would have been considered impolite in mixed company. She didn't turn to see Ryan watch her as she wiggled her way out into the hall towards KC and DJ.
“Here she is, the girl with the longest legs in the world. And damn! You're short!”
She looked up at KC. “I'm five foot nothing. Most of it legs. You are what? Six feet?”
“Six foot two. So you and my buddy DJ are going to run the acting workshops for the kids?”
“Sure looks that way. It sounds like fun. I know lots of theatre exercises we could try on the kids. They make great icebreakers, too.”
“Well, I'll leave you two kids to your theatre business,” KC said. “I haven't unpacked yet, and I want to get myself settled in. See you two at dinner?”
“Yeah. What does KC stand for anyway?”
“Kevin Collins. I go by '‘Casey,’ C-A-S-E-Y. Emphasis on the first syllable. I'll see you two later.”
He ran off before either of them could answer, which struck Catherine as something he did on a regular basis. Looks like you met your match, girl. Being around Casey could be exhausting, and she had only a little bit of exposure to him. How was she going to survive two weeks of “Whirlwind Casey”? She wasn't the least bit attracted to him, and she didn't want to fuck him, but he was far too much fun to ignore. He'd be a good friend to have in her corner if she needed one. And she wanted to make friends with him regardless of what gossip might erupt about her sexual activities, and there was bound to be some sooner or later.

Highlander's Hope Excerpt - Carriage Scene

Peeking at him from beneath her lashes, she reached up to straighten her bonnet. It hung askew off the side of her head, like a giant drooping peony. She shoved it back into place but the moment she removed her hand, it flopped over once more.

The stranger's unrestrained laughter filled the carriage.

“Oh, bother it all.” Yvette’s patience with both her rescuer and the silly bonnet were at an end. She had no choice but to remove the dratted thing to reaffix it. Several strands of hair tumbled to her shoulders when she removed the cap from her head. Suppressing a shriek of annoyance, she placed the hat beside her. She then set about securing the wayward curls. Pinning the last strand in place, her eyes met those of her companion.

Momentarily forgetting her unanswered questions, she stilled, as did the world around her. The air hung suspended in her lungs. Her eyes widened in disbelief, her stunned gaze riveted on his face. “You exist?” Her voice was husky with awe.

Raising an ebony eyebrow, a flicker of humor softened the nobleman’s features. “So it would appear.”

A voice, deep and dark, caressed Yvette’s heightened senses. She stared. Her gaze roved across his handsome features returning, as if compelled by some unseen force, to his eyes.

Those eyes. Fringed by thick lashes, the mesmerizing turquoise pools gazing back at her sent her senses reeling in recognition. Her mouth dropped open. No, it couldn’t be. “Am I dreaming?” Giving a quick shake of her head, she lowered her eyelids for a moment. Lud, but she was befuddled. "Who are you?

Being the first female chief mechanic for a NASCAR team has its good side and its bad just ask Gail "Jimmy" James. With bad things happening to the car she is working on and later threats it's enough to make a girl wonder if she is paranoid or if someone is really out to get her.

Rex Henderson is less than thrilled when he finds out his new mechanic Jimmy is female, it doesn't hurt that she turns him on from the second he laid eyes on her. Now it looks like someone is after Jimmy and has sabotaged to his car on a couple of occasions.

This has a good story to it , I like the suspenseful/mystery elements to it as well. The sexual tension is high but not a ton of actual sex scenes in here, however enough to make it a little steamy. The hardest part of this book for me is it is FILLED with technical NASCAR speak and as someone who has never watched a race in my life I was lost. I am sure if you have a passing knowledge of NASCAR you will appreciate this far more than I did.

BEAUTY TOUCHED THE BEAST review:
This a novella length book to get you started on this series, Erin is a girl who is paying her way through college by cleaning houses one of which is the reclusive Blake who she finds insanely attractive.
Blake was injured during his time in the military and has scars on his face that make him uncomfortable around people but those are only the ones that show, He has Erin come to clean house because he likes having her there not so much because he needs a housekeeper.

This is a short, sexy read with a May/November romance and some smokin' hot scenes, Know that when you finish this you will want to have the second book BENEATH THE BEAUTY handy because you will want more.

BENEATH THE BEAUTY review:
Erin is thrilled that Blake is willing to go back to work as an associate professor she sees this as a great sign that he is getting over some of the PTSD that has had him hiding away in his house for far to long. Blake is trying to move on with his life and still struggles to understand why someone as beautiful as Erin would want to be with him.

This book is longer and has more depth to it, we are able to see the insecurity on both Erin and Blake, when Blake's old girlfriend wants to take up where they left off trust is put to the test and jealousy rears it's ugly head. This gives Blake and Erin a chance to open up more and to be closer to one another.

As with the first book this one is hot hot hot! We get more in depth with the characters and we have some more steamy erotic scenes that will leave you needing a cold shower.

Excerpt:

She let herself in using her key and called out, “Mr. Morris! It’s Erin.”

Call me Blake, he always asked, but for some reason she resisted. She wasn’t usually a stickler for propriety, but with him it seemed like a good idea. Maybe his military roots made the formality more correct to her. Or more likely, it was the domesticity of cleaning his home while he loitered near her.

It would be so easy to slip, to let him see how she felt about him. Then she’d feel like an idiot—a dumb, little girl panting after a man old enough to be her father.

She pulled a book from her bag and went upstairs in search of her boss to return it to him. She could probably put it in his bookcase, always neat and organized so she’d know right where it belonged. In fact, his whole house sparkled from the knotted floorboards to the arched ceilings.

It was partly because he was so fastidious, but also because she did a full deep clean twice a week. It was one of the odd habits that made her reclusive employer so strange, and also endearing.

She could replace the book, but she wanted an excuse to talk to him. They’d had a lively debate on the merits of the U.N. in her political science class yesterday and she knew he’d appreciate it.

She poked her head in his bedroom and found him there. Her breath caught in her throat as she took in the sight. He lay spread out on the bed, his skin still damp from a bath, a towel in disarray around his waist.

And he was masturbating. Shit!

She ought to leave. This was clearly a private moment and she the intruder. She really should turn around, walk away and absolutely, positively not watch. Instead she stood there, her eyes riveted to his exposed cock standing up thick from his fisted hand.

“God, baby,” he moaned, his eyes closed, “Suck it, please.”

Her lips parted in surprise, as if she could obey him from across the room. Her clit throbbed to hear his rasping voice say those dirty words, to watch his fist fuck his cock.

“Yes. Yesss. So beautiful. God.” His other hand reached to cup his balls. “That’s right, baby. Lick them. Suck them.”

Her wide-eyed gaze flew to his face, mesmerized by the interplay of shiny, scar tissue and ruddy, healthy skin twisted in a grimace of pleasure. His burns and coarse features might make him repulsive to some, but when she looked at him she saw only Blake, with his brilliant ideas and gruff kindness.

“Touch yourself. Yeah, yeah. Take me deep in your mouth and stick your fingers in your cunt.”

Her thighs squeezed together where she stood, giving herself whatever relief she could. If she moved, either her legs or her hands, she’d have to acknowledge that what she was doing, that being a voyeur was wrong, so she stayed still instead.

Then, shockingly, he moaned her name, “Erin…”

When Sandra and Frankie head out and use the money they have saved and quit their jobs to rescue Candice from a life as a prostitute and a drug addict. They must head into the city into the inner city where it is less than safe for them to be.

Some of the book was hard for me to follow having no knowledge of tarot reading or how one can divine things from a deck of playing cards. This is a YA book so there is no sex to speak of. Being a fairly short book it was a quick read and would be good for pool side this Summer.

EXCERPT:
She paused, as if slightly stunned. She had no reason to believe Candice’s situation would change. “You delude yourself with unrealistic demands. Freeing our friend has turned out to be far more difficult than expected. First and foremost, I can’t get close to her. She is oblivious to me. I tried to capture her attention but my task could not be accomplished. The transfer of thoughts between minds failed.”
Frankie fought to keep her voice calm. “I felt the energy build up within myself. I composed a short and direct thought. I sent out a strong flow of thought energy from my third eye. The surge quickly evaporated. I couldn’t control the message, the energy scattered.”
Sandra sank back into the couch cushion and exhaled. “Well, you might have been more successful had you been closer. If the place was really busy their thought energy would cancel out yours. Plus, I’m sure she couldn’t receive your thought message, the cord has been severed. She’d not tuned in. Her deep drug addiction fuels her. We need to cast a spell so she will come to you.”
