The Viscount's Vow by Collette Cameron *New Release*

Amidst murder and betrayal, destiny and hearts collide when scandal forces a nobleman and a gypsy to marry in this Regency Romance.

Half Romani, half English noblewoman, Evangeline Caruthers is the last woman in England Ian Hamilton, the Viscount Warrick, could ever love—an immoral wanton responsible for his brother’s and father’s deaths. She thinks he’s a foul-tempered blackguard, who after setting out to cause her downfall, finds himself forced to marry her—snared in the trap of his own making.

When Vangie learns the marriage ceremony itself may have been a ruse, she flees to her gypsy relatives, declaring herself divorced from Ian under Romani law. He pursues her to the gypsy encampment, and when the handsome gypsy king offers to take Ian’s place in Vangie’s bed, jealousy stirs hot and dangerous.

At last, under a balmy starlit sky, Ian and Vangie breech the chasm separating them. Peril lurks though. Ian’s the last in his line, and his stepmother intends to dispose of the newlyweds so her daughter can inherit his estate. Only by trusting each other can they overcome scandal and murderous betrayal.

In Collette Cameron's new release The Viscount's Vow, which is really from an earlier time period than her first book Highlanders Hope, we have the makings of your classic Regency Era Romance. However that being the case Ms. Cameron takes it up a notch with intrigue, revenge and my favorite gypsies.
I have always been fascinated by gypsies and their culture and traditions, from the time I was a gypsy in for Halloween in the third grade I have read and watched many things about them. The Viscount's Vow makes that element of the book fascinating as well as seamless.

Evangeline, Vangie, is beautiful, strong and smart. Ian is at first tries to be vindictive but is captivated by Vangie and the pair learn to love each other through many a wild twist and turn. From Balls to gypsy camps and mourning, forced weddings and gypsy divorce to love, trust and triumph.

This is another fantastic read from Ms. Cameron and I am hoping that this will be a long and plentiful series as I have adored the first two books.

Mail Order Mayhem (Brides of Beckham #1) by Kirsten Osbourne

When Maude is told she must marry a repulsive man, she instead responds to an Iowa farmer who is looking for a mail order bride. After sneaking out of town on a train, she goes to Iowa and marries. She quickly falls for the wonderful man she marries, but does he feel the same? And will she be able to escape her past?

 photo Review.jpg

Mail Order Mayhem is the first in the Brides of Beckham series, this first book is more novella in length at around 100 pages and introduces us not only to the heroine (the mail order bride) Maude and the hero John but most importantly to Harrett Long the mysterious woman who runs the mail order bride service. Harrett is the constant in the series the rest of the books each are about new couples.

When Maude is to be married off to a man she can't stand and is twice her age she is despondent when she runs into Harrett at the post office it is like a sign or a gift that she has been given and quickly agrees to be a mail order bride for a farmer who needs a wife in Iowa.

When John's sister in law insists it is time he take a wife and should send for one through Harrett's mail order bride agency he is extremely pleased when he meets the beautiful Maude at the train.

This is a quick book that has a little heat, a couple of plot twists and some old fashion falling in love. At times the story is a lot like the inspirational romance novels but at the same time it does have some sexual content. I enjoyed the story enough that I have continued reading the series and each one though based on the idea of mail order brides is different and enjoyable in its own way.

Temptation in a Kilt (Bad Boys of the Highlands #1) by Victoria Roberts

She's On Her Way to Safety

It's a sign of Lady Rosalia Armstrong's desperation that she's seeking refuge in a place as rugged and challenging as the Scottish Highlands. She doesn't care about hardship and discomfort, if only she can become master of her own life. Laird Ciaran MacGregor, however, is completely beyond her control...

He Redefines Dangerous...

Ciaran MacGregor knows it's perilous to get embroiled with a fiery Lowland lass, especially one as headstrong as Rosalia. Having made a rash promise to escort her all the way to Glengarry, now he's stuck with her, even though she challenges his legendary prowess at every opportunity. When temptation reaches its peak, he'll be ready to show her how he really is...on and off the battlefield.

 photo Review.jpg

Running from an arranged marriage to an awful British nobleman, Rosalia heads for the Scottish highlands in search of the grandmother she has never met.

Ciaran isn't looking for a bride, he isn't even looking for a new woman to warm his bed but when he rescues Rosalia from nearly dying in the woods and he agrees to take her to her grandmother somehow she works her way into his heart and his life.

Temptation in a Kilt is a great start to the Bad Boys of the Highland series and is full of adventure, suspense, romance and sexy Scotsmen. I enjoyed the Scottish that is thrown in here and there and I loved Ciaran with his need to be the tough alpha Laird of his clan and his softer side that falls head of tails for Rosalia.

We have battles and sword fights, we get evil parents and plotting exes, clan rivalry and even some sibling jealousy. It is a great start to a series and I plan on getting caught up with the current releases so I can follow new ones that come out.

NetGalley Review: Super Hot (Superlovin' #3) by Vivi Andrews

He’s on fire for her… literally.

Superhero research scientist Dr. Eric Eisenmann always secretly wanted to be super himself, until he was abducted, experimented on, and woke up pyrokinetic—the least stable of all the super abilities. Suddenly he’s lighting everything around him on fire whenever his emotions get the better of him and desperate to turn his super powers off. Unfortunately, Eisenmann’s only hope for a cure lies with a woman who wants nothing to do with him—and fires up the very emotions he needs to keep in check.

As the only non-super daughter in a superhero dynasty, Tandy Nightwing has been poked and prodded for years in an attempt to find the cause behind her defect. Now that she’s finally found a way to be happy with her normalcy, the last thing she wants is to subject herself to another super scientist’s tests—but she can no more resist Eisenmann’s plea for help than she can resist the good doctor himself.

Deep in his underground lab, Eisenmann tries to maintain rigid control of his feelings, but Tandy is his personal kryptonite, constantly testing his restraint. Powerless or not, she just might be the one woman brave enough to stand close to his fire—provided they both survive when their experiments unleash a passion that burns hotter than sin.

 photo Review.jpg

While Super Hot is written as a stand alone novella it is book three in a series and I for one had a hard time with not getting a lot of the back story having not read one and two so while it can be read alone I would highly recommend reading books one and two first.

Turned into a super against his will Dr. Eric Eisenmann is now a pyrokinetic, unable to control his fire a lot of the time he has turned to living in his mostly cement lab in a bunker. He needs the assistance of Tandy Nightwing the only known non-super born to super parents, Eric hopes that by studying her he will be able to treat himself and others like him.

Eric has no room in his life for a woman or uncontrollable lust especially when it makes his fire rage but he never expected Tandy Nightwing to be so hot herself. Tandy is busy trying to prove herself as a non-super in a super family she has devoted herself to school and now the company she doesn't have time for a man even if she finds Eric super hot albeit super unstable.

Super Hot is set in a world where being a superhero is just normal, where they have a special prison just for super villains and building a ray guy is a legitimate solution offered to a problem. This is a fast paced story with not only the romance that brews between Eric and Tandy but also a crisis for the supers to solve. This would be a good afternoon by the pool before the kids go back to school sort of book.

Highlander's Hope by Collette Cameron

Not a day has gone by that Ewan McTavish, the Viscount Sethwick, hasn't dreamed of the beauty he danced with two years ago. He's determined to win her heart and make her his own. Heiress, Yvette Stapleton, is certain of one thing; marriage is risky and, therefore, to be avoided. At first, she doesn't recognize the dangerously handsome man who rescues her from assailants on London's docks, but Lord Sethwick's passionate kisses soon have her reconsidering her cynical views on matrimony. On a mission to stop a War Office traitor, Ewan draws Yvette into deadly international intrigue. To protect her, he exploits Scottish law, declaring her his lawful wife—without benefit of a ceremony. Yvette is furious upon discovering the irregular marriage is legally binding, though she never said, "I do." Will Ewan's manipulation cost him her newfound love?

 photo Review.jpg

Collette Cameron provides us with a Regency era Highlander romance that takes place in not only London but also Boston and into Scotland.
Ewen is a Lord of the realm but he is also part of an elite group who work for the War Office. As an operative he is compelled by the Prince Regent to find the spy who has been feeding information to the French during the last war, until he solves this he is unable to return to Scotland or even think about marrying.

Yvette has lost her father and step-mother but was also in an accident that nearly killed her, was also the nearly kidnapped twice and been on the receiving end of two attempted rapes all perpetrated by her step-brother. After the latest incident she escapes Boston on a ship headed for London. She knows once she reaches London she will be a very wealthy woman how can she trust any man wanted her for her.

This is a great mix of romance and suspense with a heroine that wants to marry for love and a hero who never thought to find love but ends up being head over heels for a woman that he may have to use as bait to get his man. This story has wonderful imagery, characters you will enjoy and enough suspense to make for an exciting read. We also have a bit of heat but not anything erotic just good romance.

EXCERPT:

Highlander's Hope Excerpt - Carriage Scene

Peeking at him from beneath her lashes, she reached up to straighten her bonnet. It hung askew off the side of her head, like a giant drooping peony. She shoved it back into place but the moment she removed her hand, it flopped over once more.

The stranger's unrestrained laughter filled the carriage.

“Oh, bother it all.” Yvette’s patience with both her rescuer and the silly bonnet were at an end. She had no choice but to remove the dratted thing to reaffix it. Several strands of hair tumbled to her shoulders when she removed the cap from her head. Suppressing a shriek of annoyance, she placed the hat beside her. She then set about securing the wayward curls. Pinning the last strand in place, her eyes met those of her companion.

Momentarily forgetting her unanswered questions, she stilled, as did the world around her. The air hung suspended in her lungs. Her eyes widened in disbelief, her stunned gaze riveted on his face. “You exist?” Her voice was husky with awe.

Raising an ebony eyebrow, a flicker of humor softened the nobleman’s features. “So it would appear.”

A voice, deep and dark, caressed Yvette’s heightened senses. She stared. Her gaze roved across his handsome features returning, as if compelled by some unseen force, to his eyes.

Those eyes. Fringed by thick lashes, the mesmerizing turquoise pools gazing back at her sent her senses reeling in recognition. Her mouth dropped open. No, it couldn’t be. “Am I dreaming?” Giving a quick shake of her head, she lowered her eyelids for a moment. Lud, but she was befuddled. "Who are you?

 photo Review.jpg

As you may know by now I am a huge history geek and so when the opportunity to review The Vacant Chair, a civil war romance, came around I lept at the chance. I am extremely glad I did. While a work of fiction the accurate historical detail is astounding.

The hero of The Vacant Chair is Justin Thompson a captain in the Fifth Michigan Cavalry known as the Wolverines. Justin and his brother Mitch are both injured and end up in a Union army hospital where a beautiful nurse he met in passing is working, Brianna.
While she helps to restore his health they fall in love.

Breanna is a widow who saw her first husband die at the beginning of the Civil War in appalling conditions in an army hospital because of that she dedicates herself to becoming a nurse and saving as many young men as she can. Brianna because of her dedication saves Justin's life when he is wounded and brought to her hospital.

This romance follows some of the ugliest fighting and situations of any war in this countries history. The detail is rich and descriptive as well as moving and heartbreaking. Ms. Cross brings us into the war and into the lives of not only Justin and Breanna but of their families as well. The gripping tale of long distance love during a time of war and the anticipation and worry are written in a way that you can feel it along with the characters in the story.

While this does have some steam it doesn't reach what I would consider erotic and is done well so it flows with the story and doesn't feel like the author added it to make the book racy. It is very well done. Overall I must say this is well worth your time to read.

The Vacant Chair excerpt for My Reading Obsession:

Justin’s gaze darkened with longing. He gathered her hands in his and squeezed them, staring straight into her eyes. “I’m falling in love with you.”
Her heart drummed in her ears. Brianna’s feelings for him were so intense she hadn’t dared trust them. Was that possible? For her to fall in love so quickly? She couldn’t speak, simply drank him in and knew that no matter what happened, she’d remember this moment for the rest of her life.
“I think you care about me too,” he continued, his hands warm around hers. “But are you willing to wait for me?”
A nervous jitter started in her belly. “Yes, I absolutely will.” Her heart pounded like she’d jumped off a cliff.
Justin laughed at her astonished expression. “I realize we haven’t known each other very long, and there’s always a chance I won’t live to see the end of the war—”
She put a hand over his mouth to stop the awful words and shook her head. “Don’t even think like that.”
He pressed a kiss to her sensitized palm before pulling her hand away. “With you waiting for me, how could I not come back?”
Fear bubbled up, thick enough to choke on. She buried her cheek into the hollow of his shoulder, afraid of losing him as she had everyone else. “I don’t want you to go.”
Justin cupped her face between his hands and tipped her head back to settle his gaze on her mouth. Her heart skipped a beat when his lashes dipped down and he lowered his head toward her. Brianna met him half way.
A rush of sensual heat swept through her when his lips settled over hers, firm and warm. She made a soft sound of relief and gripped his shoulders as long-buried desire exploded inside her.
Justin angled his head and took her mouth in a velvet caress of lips and tongue. His clean scent wrapped around her, citrus and soap, and he tasted of the lemon tarts she’d seen in the kitchens earlier. Her body tightened, pulsed, and her thoughts scattered. Even wounded he was much stronger than her, yet so gentle as he held her head still. He slid his tongue over her lower lip, turning her liquid with the hunger she sensed raging beneath his controlled exterior.
It only intensified the ache inside her.
Raw need ignited in her blood. Her breasts tingled as a wave of heat engulfed her, making her breathless. This kiss wasn’t enough. She wanted his hands on her, all over her bare skin. Wanted to hold him inside her body as deeply as she could. She craved the release her body clamored for. Brianna shifted to her knees and twisted closer to him. A frustrated whimper slipped out of her and she arched her back to press her breasts against him to find some relief.
Justin held her firmly in place, teasing her with his tongue. Impatient, Brianna touched her tongue to his. He tangled both hands in her hair and groaned as he fused their mouths together.

 photo Review.jpg

Being the first female chief mechanic for a NASCAR team has its good side and its bad just ask Gail "Jimmy" James. With bad things happening to the car she is working on and later threats it's enough to make a girl wonder if she is paranoid or if someone is really out to get her.

Rex Henderson is less than thrilled when he finds out his new mechanic Jimmy is female, it doesn't hurt that she turns him on from the second he laid eyes on her. Now it looks like someone is after Jimmy and has sabotaged to his car on a couple of occasions.

This has a good story to it , I like the suspenseful/mystery elements to it as well. The sexual tension is high but not a ton of actual sex scenes in here, however enough to make it a little steamy. The hardest part of this book for me is it is FILLED with technical NASCAR speak and as someone who has never watched a race in my life I was lost. I am sure if you have a passing knowledge of NASCAR you will appreciate this far more than I did.
