Excerpt(Adult):
Solenne sat with her head in her hands at the kitchen table, her bruised arms the evidence of her sacrifice. Saint lightly ran his finger over the purple mark where he suspected the Archon had brutally misused her and cringed in anger at the look of pain he saw in her eyes when she looked up at him.

A growl escaped from his lips and his fangs slammed down into his mouth. "Who did this?"

Pushing past him, she shook her head. "Don't. If this is what I have to endure to keep you safe and help the Sons defeat those bastards, then I do it willingly."

"Tell me who did this, Solenne. I owe him."

She spun around to face him, and the pained sound in her voice made him hate himself. "Why? So you can make everything I've done meaningless? So you can get yourself killed?"

Before he could answer, she was gone, but he'd seen the tears in her eyes. Anger mixed with the need to protect her, churning his gut into knots until he had to see her.

He had to let her know what she'd done wasn't meaningless.

Her door was open, and she stood with her back to him. Already out of her clothes, she wore only a tank top and boy shorts that clung to every perfect curve on her body. His cock stiffened as his eyes took in the sight of her gorgeous legs. Long and lean, they were the kind of legs a man loved wrapped around him as he slid in and out of her wet cunt.

"Solenne," he said almost in a whisper to not startle her, but it didn't work. She spun around with her arms covering her full breasts that strained against the thin fabric of her tank top, but she couldn't cover the bruises along her collarbone and across her shoulders.

Obviously inflicted that night, their redness had begun to fade to a deep purple where fingers had pressed roughly into her tender skin. Solenne saw the look of shock he didn't try to hide from his eyes and scrambled to grab a shirt from the back of a nearby chair.

"What is this?"

"Nothing. Just leave it be."

Saint took the shirt from her hand and threw it on the bed. "No." Dipping his head, he softly pressed his lips to the darkest bruise on her left shoulder. Fucking Archon!

Gingerly, he ran his fingers over her skin, gently touching each bruise before raising his head to look at her. "Solenne, I promise you here and now I'm going to kill the one who did this. I'll drain him drop by drop until he begs for the release a stake will bring."

Eyes wide with tears looked up at him, their blue color pale and watery. "Saint, don't touch me like this if you don't mean it."

He meant it. He'd meant it in every dream he'd had of finally returning to her. Taking her face in his hands, he kissed her long and deep, drinking in the delicious taste of the lips he'd missed for so long.

God, he'd yearned to once again feel the touch of her skin next to his! Year upon year of lonely nights interrupted only by pale replacements ebbed from his memory now as his hands once again learned of the woman he'd always loved.

Solenne molded to him, setting his senses ablaze. His body craved to join with her, to finally reclaim that piece of his heart lost so painfully nearly a century ago. He slid his hands under her shirt to her breasts and worshipped them—their fullness in his palms, their deep pink tips pebbled from desire that begged for his mouth's attention.

"Come."

Taking her hand, he led her to the shower. "Don't move." A quick twist of the faucet handle and warm water streamed down from the showerhead.

"Do I look like I need a shower?" she asked in a teasing tone as he slipped the tank top over her head.

Saint looked down at her sexy mouth as he slid his thumbs under the waist of her shorts. "Always fighting me."

Crouching in front of her, he slid the shorts down her legs and off her feet. Eye level with her pussy, he looked up and licked his lips. "I hope you don't plan on fighting me now."

He didn't wait for a reply before he drew his finger up her wet slit. Solenne's eyebrows knitted and she bit her lip. Her eyes slowly closed and tiny moans filled his ears.

"Don't close your eyes. Watch me."

Excerpt:
Maxwell Van Buren had never been this hot in his entire life. Sweat poured from his body and highlighted his defined biceps and pecs while also soaking his old Guns N’ Roses t-shirt. His muscles tensed. It felt like he was on fire. In some scenes, his appearance might even be sexy at that moment. Wet. Hot. Breathing heavy. Unfortunately, there wasn't a damn thing erotic about his current situation.

“Piece of junk!” he exclaimed kicking the tire of his steaming rental car in frustration. This is what he got for renting a car from some place called Rent-A-Deal. The luxury convertible he had ordered for this trip had been mistakenly given to another customer, and all rental car places in Phoenix were booked due to ten simultaneous conventions except for...you guessed it...Rent-A-Deal which specialized in rental cars that had passed their prime many years earlier at other companies. If Max was going to continue with his trip, he had to have a car...any car. So, the 2001 Corolla seemed reliable enough at the time.

Now, he stood along a deserted highway in northern Arizona right smack in the height of summer. Max couldn't even begin to guess the temperature out here. He took off his sweaty t-shirt, wiped his brow with it, and tied it around his waist. He looked at his watch. When he called them, his auto club had said a tow truck should have been there ten minutes ago.

“Stupid idiot,” Max muttered under his breath. This whole plan had been his own cockamamie idea to get back in touch with “the people,” to find out where his company went wrong, and to see where they could inject new energy into their restaurants. But it looked as if things would be a bust from the word “go.”

His family, the Van Burens, owned a chain of Mexican restaurants called Tio Jose's, or TJ's for short. The initial business had been started by his Mexican great-grandfather, Jose Hernandez Gonzalez, who sold fresh tacos from a cart in Los Angeles before upgrading to a small stand. His daughter was Max's grandmother, Carmen Santana, a woman said to be so beautiful and voluptuous men would skip a breath at the sight of her. She married Carlson Van Buren, much to the moneyed Van Buren family's shock and dismay. When great-grandfather Jose died, Carl Van Buren suddenly noticed how successful the little taco stand had become and additional dollar signs flashed before his eyes. Carl, with Carmen's blessing, took the initial restaurant idea and turned it into what would become a 200 location national restaurant chain specializing in mid-priced Mexican food, using Jose's old recipes of course.

Years later, Max had inherited the CEO position, but under his watch and with the downsizing economy, TJ's had begun to lose ground and fast. At the last board meeting, Max had been told to turn things around quickly or expect to be replaced.

Maxwell Van Buren, thirty-two years old, six foot two, dazzling smile, well-defined body and charm that could talk a Catholic nun into giving up her habit had never grown accustomed to failures of any kind. Failure had simply not been a word in his vocabulary. He sure as hell would not start now. After studying piles of customer survey data with his younger brother, Stuart, Max noticed a trend. Customers felt that TJ's offered nothing special that could not be found anywhere else and for a cheaper price. The customer service rating also left a lot to be desired.

That's when Max had what he hoped would be the saving idea to turn things around. He gathered a team of assistants to research small-town Mexican restaurants that were thriving, even in this economy. He wanted to see firsthand what these establishments were doing that his big chain company didn't do. No contracted out research company for him. Max wanted to get into the nitty-gritty himself.

A one-week trip with ten stops through Arizona, Nevada, and California was planned. Max instructed his staff to only contact him in an emergency and left everything else in Stuart's hands. He wanted to have a clear head during his expedition. He wanted to see what was needed to bring the heart back to TJ's and its customers back to the dining room.

“So much for careful planning. And I wanted to get into the nitty-gritty…,” Max said to himself, glancing down at his watch, feeling hot and tired.

He hadn't even made it to his first stop in Primrose, Arizona.
Finally, in the distance, he saw a tow truck approaching.

“About damn time,” he growled, his mouth feeling as dry and rough as the surrounding landscape.

The tow truck skidded to a stop behind his Corolla and to his utter surprise, a tall, alluring Latina, with long curly dark hair hopped down from the bed of the truck. She wore a green t-shirt which read “Find THE Flan at Tia Maria's” and a pair of worn jeans. She sauntered up towards him and called out, “Having some problems?”

We like to think the rich and famous have it all, in Shameless by Cheryl Douglas she reminds us that you may be a huge country music star but everyone has to deal with the issues of real life from accidents and death to divorce and drunkenness.

Trey and Sierra seem to be soul mates deeply in love and have sparks galore, tragedy has a way of messing with even the best couples and Trey and Sierra have been having some issues to start with. When Sierra leave Trey he goes into a down hill slide of destructive behavior.

Shameless is a story of love and loss, second chances and new hope. I loved the family support and the love that is shared by Trey and Sierra however I felt that the whole "tragic misunderstanding" plot twist was a little over used, that and I can not tell you how many times we are reminded that Trey is a big star. I felt the love story was solid and with just the loss they had suffered and Trey's substance abuse issues they had tons to work through without some of the other twists thrown in.

The story is good, the characters are real and some steamy scenes make this a book that I liked. If you are a country music/Nashville fan I think you will enjoy this even more than I did.

Excerpt:

Prologue
Five Years Earlier

The sexy little waitress stretched to offer her neck as Trey Turner prepared to do another body shot at the urging of his inebriated friends. He licked the salt off her neck as he felt a small hand grip his shoulder.

“What the hell do you think you’re doing?”

He turned to see his wife, Sierra, staring up at him, disgust darkening her bright blue eyes. He heard a few of his friends mutter curses as the crowd broke up and went back to drinking and dancing.

“Baby, I was just havin’ a little fun.” His words slurred and he wondered how many body shots he’d had before Sierra intervened.

The waitress slid her hand down his chest, hooking a finger through his belt loop. “That was fun. How ‘bout we pick up where we left off later?”

Sierra turned away, not waiting for his answer as she began weaving her way through the crowd.

“Sierra, baby, wait,” he called, trying to push his way through the throngs of people before she reached the door. He grabbed her wrist just as she was about to cross the threshold. “Wait. Please, don’t go.”

“It’s over, I’m done with this shit,” she said, trying to shake loose of his grip.

He had more than a foot and a hundred pounds on her. She wasn’t going anywhere until he decided he was ready to let her go, which wouldn’t happen in this lifetime. “What’s that supposed to mean? Where the hell do you think you’re going?”

“Home to pack.”

He felt the room begin to spin out of control. “What did you say?”

“I’m leaving you. Our marriage is over.”

His grip on her wrist tightened. “No, you can’t leave me.”

She pressed a hand to his chest. “It’s been over for a long time. I’m just making it official.”

“We’re not having this conversation out here in front of a hundred people,” he said, pulling her through the horde of friends he’d invited to his private party. He opened the door to the small dressing room usually occupied by the nightly entertainment that performed at Jimmy’s bar. “We’ll have some privacy in here.”

She was finally able to shake free of his tight grip. “I’ve already said everything I have to say to you.”

He gripped her waist. “Don’t do this, Sierra.” He bent to kiss her neck. “I love you, baby. God, I love you so much. I can’t live without you.” He backed her toward the couch as he lowered himself down on top of her.

“You’ve been living without me for the past year, Trey. You’ve spent your days on a tour bus and your nights in a stadium or bar.” Her voice broke. “We lost our baby girl and you don’t seem to care.”

“Don’t say that,” he whispered furiously. “Don’t ever say that I didn’t care about Callie. I loved her, Sierra. It damn near killed me when we lost her.”

She glared at him. “Really? Is that why you boarded that goddamn tour bus a week after her funeral?”

“I’m a musician; it’s what I do.” He knew the excuse was weak. Sierra was right. He’d been trying to run away from his grief and sadness instead of staying at home where he belonged, supporting his wife.

She shook her head, looking defeated. “It’s what you do—it’s who you are. Trey Turner, country music’s award-winning, platinum-selling mega-star. What about my husband? Callie’s father? Where is he?”

He closed his eyes, feeling disgusted with himself for letting her down again. “Baby, I’m sorry. Look, I know I’ve made mistakes, but let me make it up to you, okay?” His hand eased up her shirt to cup her breast.

Her head rolled back and she closed her eyes. “No, we can’t do this. It won’t fix the problem.” Making love to her may not solve all of their problems, but it would buy him some time to figure out a way to convince her to give him and their marriage another chance. “Just relax,” he whispered, licking her neck.

“Hmm, that feels so good.” She wrapped her denim-clad leg around his. “But then you had lots of practice with your girlfriend right before I got here, didn’t you?”

He cursed himself for indulging in the adolescent drinking game and giving his wife reason to question his fidelity yet again. “Sweetheart,” he whispered, flipping the button on her jeans. “You’re the only one I want; you know that.”

She squeezed her eyes shut as she shook her head. “No, I don’t.”

He hated that he had given her reason to doubt herself, to doubt them. “Let me prove it to you, then.”

His tongue traced the soft fullness of her lips until she finally parted for him. He groaned, taking her mouth with a savage intensity. His mind raced; fear warring with panic as he realized this may be the last time they made love, the last time he had the right to touch her.

Cheryl began her professional career as a nutritionist, but her love of books started at an early age. She studied writing for many years before she decided to pursue her passion as a full-time career. After receiving constructive criticism from several well-known authors, Cheryl finally had the confidence to write her first romance novel.

The first book in the Nashville Nights series, Shameless, was a book that had been dwelling in Cheryl’s subconscious for years. For her, the surprise came when the manuscript began taking on a life of it’s own. Characters came to life, secondary characters became more prominent, outlines were forgotten, and a single title evolved into an eight book series, and another eight book spin-off series entitled Nashville Nights, Next Generation.

One word would aptly describe Cheryl: workaholic. She lives and breathes her writing, when she’s sleeping, watching TV, driving, reading… it’s always in the periphery of her mind. Her imagination rarely takes a holiday, even when she escapes to a sandy beach with her husband and son, she’s planning, plotting, outlining, and daydreaming.

Cheryl feels blessed to be able to get up every day and do something she loves. The thousands of fans who have embraced the Nashville Nights have made that possible. She writes for the readers who ask for more, she writes to satisfy the muse residing inside of her, but most of all, she writes because she couldn’t imagine doing anything else with her life. It took her thirty-seven years to decide what she wanted to be when she grew up, but now that she knows, she’s convinced she’s found her purpose.

Cassandra Carr is well know for her sexy cowboys and her smokin' hot hockey players all very alpha male, so when the hero of Master Class is an English professor and a newbie Dom on top of that you wonder will he be the sexy smokin' Dom's we expect from Ms. Carr? OH YEAH

Ryan is a natural Dom, he has the voice, the eyebrow, the possessiveness and the ruler paddle to prove it. Lisette is a little gun shy after her last Dom turned out to be abusive and controlling, she is just getting back to the club after several months.

Ryan and Lisette have more chemistry than a DuPont engineer convention and the BDSM scenes they do together will soak your panties and leave you so hot and bothered you would think you were in Memphis in August. Ms. Carr takes us through the story of their very not vanilla relationship and explores their emotions as well as establishing the D/s dynamic. I loved that Ryan as a new Dom had his mentor and asked questions both of the mentor and Lisette, one of the best lines that exemplifies this is when Ryan says something to the effect that as much as he would like to be he isn't a mind reader and therefore he was going to ask questions to make sure he gave her (Lisette) what she needed :melt:

This goes on my reread shelf, it is a story that people with any amount of knowledge of BDSM can enjoy. 5 out of 5 for Master Class.

Excerpt
Ryan imagined it wouldn’t be cool if a Dom came in his pants before the scene even began. Bending, he grabbed the ruler paddle from his toy bag and then rooted through the other stuff until he found a larger leather paddle. He liked using paddles. They seemed to be the easiest implements for him to control, and when he’d seen the ruler paddle online, he knew he had to get it, given his day job.

Obviously he would never even consider using corporal punishment on his students, but some of the faux-Victorian spanking porn he’d watched had been pretty hot. He was happy to indulge this fantasy of Lisette’s.

Stepping closer, he dropped the leather paddle on top of his bag for later and reached out. Hooking his thumbs in the waistband of her gauzy pants, he pulled them down to her knees with suddenly trembling hands. As he’d suspected, she was bare underneath. He could’ve happily done a swan dive into her pussy with his face, but he knew he had to stay in character, so he tamped down on his own desire.

“What a naughty girl. Not even wearing panties to class.” He patted her ass with the paddle, then moved it away. Reaching with his free hand, he ran his fingers through her soaked folds. “And it appears someone’s excited.” Her pussy wasn’t shaved bare but rather was neatly trimmed, which was fine with him, as a bare pussy frankly did nothing for him.

“Yes, sir.” Lisette answered in a meek tone.

“Let’s see what we can do about your inability to turn in assignments on time.” Moving to her left, he took a couple of practice swings, then brought the paddle to about shoulder height and laid on the first stroke, following it immediately with a caress of his left hand. “Okay?”

“Green, sir.”

As soon as she spoke, he gave her another stroke, right on the fleshiest part of her bared ass. Her breath caught, but she remained silent. “Are you learning, girl?”

“Yes, sir. I won’t do it anymore, sir.”

“I’m not sure I believe you.” He gave her three more strokes, moving down her bottom a little on each stroke so that the last one landed right where her ass and thighs met. Soothing the skin with his left hand as she attempted to wiggle into his touch, he continued, really getting into his role and saying all the things he wished he could say to his real students. “When you don’t turn in your assignments on time, you’re disrespecting me and my class.”

“I’m sorry, sir.”

“You’re going to be.”

She seemed to be adequately warmed up, and he spanked her steadily for a few moments, covering her ass from near the top to a little on her thighs. As the area blushed from light pink to a darker shade, he positioned himself where he could see her expression.

Though determined to keep her at bay, the infamous breh-hedden, an all-consuming vampire bonding ritual, wraps him up tight and demands that he protect Elise. As he strives to keep her alive during her Rite of Ascension, love threatens to overwhelm his carefully ordered, war-weary world.

 photo Review.jpg

In the world of vampires and paranormal romance finding a world that is unique is hard to do, Caris Roane has managed to do that with Brink of Eternity and the The World of Ascension series. This is an in between novella #2.5 in this series.

Gideon is a warrior first and foremost, he plans to devoting his life (eternal as it may be) to helping win the war within the vampire world. He has recently ended a two year affair he had been carrying on with a human, Elise.

Elise had always had to hide her gift, she was taught at an early age that it was not something to be discussed and as an effort to keep control of her life and ignore her visions she is very ordered and very scheduled. When she receives a vision of Gideon's beloved sister being in danger she has to go against everything she thought she wanted in order to help save Rachel.

The unique world that has been created in this series is well done and the mythology that has even been created as part of this world is good. I enjoyed the chemistry between Elise and Gideon, with this being an in between novella a lot of the back story of the two warring factions and even of the warriors themselves is missing. I would say on its own it is a good read and I liked it, I think if read as part of the series it would be even better.

About the Author:

I was ten when I first watched an old movie version of PRIDE AND PREJUDICE and loved it! Movies led to books, which led to writing and after a good long while, publishing. I wrote sweet Regency romance for Kensington for 19 years and recently fell in love with paranormal, although I’ve always had a thing for vampires. I currently write paranormal romance for St. Martin’s Press but I self-publish as well. Building an online platform has been an enormous but rewarding challenge. I think all the changes in publishing will alter how authors approach the business going forward and I for one am thrilled to have so many options.

Caris Roane has published over fifty Regency romance novels and novellas under the pen name, Valerie King. In 2005, Romantic Times gave her a Career Achievement award in Regency Romance. Having had a long-time love affair with vampires, Caris tackled the paranormal genre and built a unique vampire world based on ascending dimensional earths. Her series is called Guardians of Ascension.
Her most recent self-published project, The Blood Rose Novella Series, launched in May of 2012 with the first title: Embrace the Dark.

Currently, Caris is working on a new vampire series set to launch in the Fall of 2013: WARRIORS IN CHAINS with the first novel, BORN IN CHAINS.

So I have a confession to make, I only started reading the Psy-Changeling series this month, I know I know how could I have missed this series for so long? Well what it comes down to is children, I blame the fact that I have been hopelessly out of the loop for so long on my kids ;O)

Slave to Sensation starts off the Psy-Changeling series and introduces us to the race of the Psy as well as the changelings who both are in the world with the human race as well. We are also introduced to the concept of Silence in which the Psy have been trained out of having emotions to prevent violence in the race.

Nalini Singh does an amazing job at world building here and in creating the three distinct races the Psy, the humans and the Changelings. Ms. Singh also mixes up the ethnicity and the animal traits in this future world so that anyone should be able to relate to any number of the characters she has created. This first book in the series concentrates mainly on the leopard pack, DarkRiver, and on a very specific Psy Sascha Duncan.

As first novels in a series can tend toward information dumping, Ms. Singh avoids that and tells a fantastic love story complete with some steamy, sexy scenes. This is a book that is going on my reread shelf for sure.
