Excerpt:
“Oh God, Gran is circling again, and yep there she goes again. Was that Tim or Ralph that she just goosed?” Enchanted asked, not really expecting an answer, slipping out of Charmed’s embrace to go after her grandmother. He took her hand in his and calmly walked with her to the fringe of the circle where they could help if needed or at least enjoy the show close up.

A waiter came around this time bearing mini cupcakes piled high with purple and pink frosting. Charmed was vaguely aware that someone was tapping a glass for quiet. He grabbed two cupcakes from a passing waiter and held them at the ready for the ensuing toast. Sarah plucked the whole tray from the astonished waiter and rolled her scooter between Betsy and Meredith.
Pamela was trying to sneak out the back like the wise woman everyone knew her to be. Sarah held out her tray for both women to take one of the garish confections. She rolled her scooter out of the way with a smug look on her face. She got up from her seat; put the cupcake tray on the scooter seat she had just vacated and walked over to the two women. Enchanted held her breath waiting to see what Gran had up her sleeve. Before anyone knew what she was doing, she reached a hand out to both women and looked like she was going to pull them into a hug. Instead, she smashed the cupcakes into each woman’s face and told them to get some manners.

“This is a respectable party. Good lord, look at the way you two are behaving, acting like she-devils, cat calling and chick fighting at an engagement party in Heaven. Poor Doctor Petersen and her nice young fella are probably embarrassed to have you both here. In my day, women didn’t go around frenching other women in the bathroom and then move onto a chick fight as soon as they exited the bathroom. What is wrong with you two?” Enchanted groaned and held her head. Meredith laughed and started picking frosting off her nose.

“Gran, don’t go down that road.” Enchanted started.

“Why not Chantilly? You’re the one who said it first. I’m sorry to tell you Charmed, but my granddaughter prefers women; you don’t stand a chance. She thinks the term ‘lesbo’ is offensive too, so I’ll try not to call her that again.” Everyone was laughing at the quaint little old lady outing her granddaughter in public, until she turned to one of their own. “Meredith, honey, does your new husband know you swing both ways? And you Betsy, do you swing both ways too or are you strictly a big tool kind of gal?”

“I am going to feed you to the alligators yet, and I’ll bet the moat monster will not save your sorry ass when I get done telling him about this. How much booze have you had today anyhow?” Enchanted told her smirking grandmother, trying hard not to laugh with her. “Meredith, I’m sorry, I warned you she can’t keep a secret.” She turned to try to explain to the astonished onlookers when Charmed did the only thing he could think of to get the attention off her.

I live in a very small town in Northern Pennsylvania. I am blessed with one of everything... one husband, one son, one daughter, one dog, one cat, and a pet bunny. I have always wanted to be an author and have been writing stories in my head for years.

In my spare time, I volunteer at the local senior center, public library as well as various church activities.

I am an avid reader, reading mostly romance, although I am willing to try almost any book that is recommended. I like to be entertained but not scared. My favorite authors are Jennifer Crusie and Janet Chapman. My favorite books are Faking it, Agnes and the Hitman, Bet Me, the Highlander series, The Man Must Marry, and the Magic Series by Patricia rice.

Title: North Pole High: A Rebel Without a Claus
Author: Candace Jane Kringle
Genre: YA
Publisher: Elfpublishing books

MEET SIXTEEN-YEAR-OLD CANDYCANE CLAUS. She's the most popular girl at North Pole High. Her father is world-famous. And every day is Christmas. What more could any girl want?

BOYS! And the new boy, Rudy Tutti, is hot chocolate. But he hates anything to do with Christmas!

When Candy and Rudy are forced to work together on a school Christmas-tree project, her world is turned upside down: Her grades start to suffer, she loses her taste for ice cream, and now the two North-Star-cross'd teens must contend with her overprotective father — Santa Claus — before Christmas is ruined for EVERYONE!

Photobucket
North Pole High is the story of Santa's little girl, Candy as in Candycane, and her falling in love with the bad boy that dad just can't stand, Rudy.
The book is written from the point of view of Candy a 16 year old girl, with all the drama and angst that comes with being a 16 year old girl. She can be sweet (no pun intended) she can be manipulative, stubborn and she can be confused and foolish.
Rudy, the hero in North Pole High, can't abide Christmas and is not happy to be living at the North Pole and he really can't stand all of the festiveness that is all around him. Rudy prefers to be the moody, brooding teenager, he has good reason to be that way.

The story of Candy and Rudy is a cute one and the feelings of being a teenager and being kinda awkward and unsure of how to express your feeling to the person you "like" is well done. The scene where Santa tries to explain the birds and the bees to Candy using Gingerbread men is hysterical. I think any teen to young adult readers will enjoy this book a great deal.
The only part about the book that I had a hard time with is the silly terminology and slang used in the book things like "Lord's a Leaping" to indicate surprise about something or some on "goes all peanut butter and jelly"or are feeling "jelly"if they are jelious. I felt that in this the book went a bit overboard in the "world building".
It's a cute teen story and if you can get used to everything being a bit sticky sweet you will enjoy it.

EXCERPT:
“That must be it,” he said, pointing to the crystalline palace perched at the far end of Eggnog Alley.
Rocks.
Chiseled blocks of ice formed frozen tables and seats. Smoothly powdered ice columns rose from the floor. Curtains of glistening icicles dangled across space in intricate, criss-cross patterns. Drinks were served at a long, translucent bar. Every piece of ice glowed in an ever-changing array of swirling hues that flashed and pulsated with the driving beat of the music being spun by Kanye North, the DJ seal.

On the slippery stage next to him, three dancing-girl seals performed all manner of flips and loop-the-loops over vertical ice rings, like floppy, breathing, bendable Hot Wheels cars. What a sight! From the first sip, the eggnog tasted funny. Funny in the sense that it made me want to laugh more than usual. It smelled like regular eggnog, but with the volume turned way up on the candy-cane flavoring. My mother’s ’nog never tasted like this.

I laughed at Silent’s and Rudy’s milk mustaches and licked mine away before they could see it. Then I cracked open one end of the paper wrapper on my straw and blew the other end into Rudy’s face. I laughed again as it bounced off his square chin and landed in his drink. He looked at me stone-faced as he plucked it out.

I stabbed the straw into my frosty glass and drew up a longer sample of that unusual taste when a spherical elf rolled into my legs like a bowling ball, mid-sip, making me jump. He unfurled himself, blanching when he realized he’d torpedoed his boss’s daughter. I assured him Daddy would never hear about our collision from me. The little guy seemed not to grasp how I would be in way more trouble than he if my father knew where I was. He apologized profusely until Chefy shoved him back across the ice like a shuffleboard weight.

“I think he liked you,” Snowflake teased.
“Shut up!” I flung a gingerbread torso at Snowflake’s head, which rolled down the front of her shirt. Then I hid my beet-red face behind my hands and rocked with laughter.
Snowflake dug the cookie piece out of her bra. She looked at it and said, “I can’t believe you threw a gingerbread boy’s you-know-what at me!” She put it in her mouth and bit down hard on it.
“Ew! I can’t believe you ate a gingerbread boy’s you-know-what!” The unusual-tasting eggnog was making me act more juvenile than usual. I allowed another long draw of the strange liquid to run down my throat and felt a buzz in my head that was part brain freeze and part something else.

~EXCERPT~
"Never again," Jennifer Riley vowed as she stepped into the black-paneled wooden coffin outside the entrance to the Hilton Hotel in downtown Tyler, Texas. Traffic whizzed by on Main Street, some cars slowing at the sight of a woman climbing into a coffin.

Jennifer tugged at her filmy black chiffon dress, trying to cover as much of her exposed cleavage as possible. "No matter how busy Julia gets or how much she pleads, I refuse to do this again. I didn't come back to Tyler to dress up as an over-the-hill sex queen."

Paul, her sister's employee, stood quietly by, holding the lid open. "Ready?"

Jennifer took a deep breath, dreading the darkness that would engulf her. "Yes, make it quick. I hate lying inside this creepy box."

Jennifer watched the coffin lid come down, shutting out the noise and headlights from the traffic.

"You all right?" Paul asked.

"Hurry!” Her breath sounded harsh in the darkness. She felt the pallbearers lift the coffin onto the cart and roll it along the sidewalk into the hotel.

After tonight, Julia, her twin sister, would have to find someone else to jump out of coffins and sing seductively when she needed help with her business. No ifs, ands, or buts!

As the new Development Director at County General Hospital, Jennifer would be way too busy to fill in at her sister's fledgling singing telegram company. Not to mention that popping out of coffins could be damaging to her career.
The cart jostled along the hallway of the hotel until she heard wolf whistles and loud, boisterous, voices cheering, and she knew they'd arrived at the party.

Paul rapped on the coffin lid. "Are you ready?"

Jennifer cleared her throat and searched for the button that would pop open the door. Whatever happened to women jumping out of cakes? What nut case thought coffins were funny?

The coffin lifted. She gripped the sides, trying to find her balance as the pallbearers slid the casket off the cart until the box stood upright. She landed with a jarring thunk on the floor. Why couldn't you get good pallbearers these days?

Paul tapped on the side of the coffin to let her know it was show time.

"In honor of your birthday, your friends and family have given you a gift from the other side. The other side of the hill, that is," Paul announced as the noise from the crowd swelled.

Music started to play, and Jennifer hit the button on the inside of the wooden box. The lid sprang open and she slinked out, her chiffon dress clinging like a second skin that left little to the imagination.

"Happy Birthday," she sang in her alto voice, her eyes blinded by the lights. She blinked rapidly, hoping her eyesight would adjust to the brightness of the room. When her vision finally cleared, she found herself staring into the face of the one man she'd hoped never to see again.

There before her, wearing a stunned expression on his face and a Marvin the Martian child's birthday hat on his head, sat Brent Moulton.

"Well, I'll be damned," said the captain of her old high school football team, the person voted most handsome and most likely to succeed.

Jennifer's voice cracked as she gazed into the emerald eyes of the boy who'd once been the object of her teenage dreams. A lock of dark hair lay across his high forehead. His full lips smiled as she stumbled over the words to the song she'd sung countless times.

I should never have agreed to do this tonight!

Dancing for a man who, almost fifteen years ago, hadn't known the difference between her and Julia was anything but special, but the show had to go on.

She slinked around him, her heart beating in her throat as she ran her hands along the hard, contoured muscles of his shoulders. Brent must have existed on nothing but Wheaties, because his physique resembled a professional football player's rather than that of a high school kid.

Of course, he would never remember her. She had portrayed Julia that night so long ago when they'd pulled a switch on him. Nevertheless, deep down inside, the foolish young girl Jennifer had been back then had convinced herself that he’d known which twin he was with. Yes, they looked alike, but when someone really knew the two of them, their differences were obvious.

With a coo that she hoped resembled Christina Aguilera’s crooning, she ran her fingers down his cheek as she began the last chorus of the song, the place in the act where she was supposed to lean forward and placed a chaste kiss on his cheek. She gazed at his lips, full and inviting, and remembered the feel of them against her own that moonlit night when he believed he was kissing Julia's lips.

She chickened out.

As the song ended, Brent reached up and unexpectedly pulled her onto his lap, wrapping her in his muscular arms. A full-blown explosion of magnetism rushed at Jennifer like a Eurail locomotive as she gazed into his laughing emerald eyes, catching her completely off guard.

Fifteen years had passed since that night, and still he'd tag teamed her libido and brought back all those annoying yearnings she thought she’d buried long ago.

Sprawled across Brent's lap, her bottom rested against his legs, and her head lay against his muscular arm. The memory of his kiss had her heart beating a sharp rhythm against her chest. Hopefully he'd forgotten his date with Julia the night before they left for college.

He ran his hand down her arm, leaving a trail of goose bumps beneath the black chiffon sleeve of her dress. "Hi," he said as his gaze swept down the length of her, his voice deeper, sexier than she remembered.

"Hi," she managed as a shiver ran down her spine and her lungs tightened beneath the unyielding black dress.

“It’s been a long time.” The corner of his lips turned up in a cocky grin. "Shouldn't I get some kind of official birthday kiss?"

Determined to control the situation, she placed her hands on his jaw and brought his face close to her lips. She placed a quick, chaste kiss on his cheek. "Happy birthday!"
