ARC NetGalley Review: Never Deal with Dragons by Lorenda Christensen

Consoling a sobbing dragon and serving pig buffets are just part of the job for Myrna Banks. Working for a mediation firm, it's her job to get humans compensated for damages caused by the dragons who now rule. But her "typical" day is interrupted by Trian Chobardan, an old flame who sneaked out of her bed two years ago, taking her heart and a handful of classified documents with him.

Myrna would love to show Trian the door, but he's been sent by North America's reigning dragon lord for help negotiating a truce with a powerful rival to avert war. Myrna agrees to help, even though she'll be stuck with Trian as a partner.

As the two work together, Myrna finds Trian to be surprisingly supportive—and still irresistibly attractive. Though her brain tells her not to forget his betrayal, her body feels differently. When they learn the enemy dragon lord is planning something no one could have imagined, Myrna has to learn who she can trust before she loses not only her heart, but her life.

Lorenda Christensen may be a new to me author however Never Deal with Dragons proves to be a funny, suspenseful and exciting paranormal romance with sexy dragons and a spunky heroine that is a fantastic read from the beginning paragraph to the final sentence.

Set in a world after World War III when the we find out we share the planet with dragons Myrna has the ability to speak to dragons and as one of the few who do she works at providing mediation between dragons and humans. The opening scene of the book where Myrna is mediating a dispute between a farmer and a pregnant dragon who ate his cow is hysterical. In addition to being funny there are several situations where Myrna must work with her ex-boyfriend Trian to help the local Dragon Lord with getting his people back from the Dragon Lord of China that turn out to be anything but easy.

The secondary characters in Never Deal With Dragons have as much to do with propelling the story line along as the hero and heroine and they are well written and used well in the plot. This book is not erotic it does have some sexual tension between Myrna and Trian and one pretty good sex scene but nothing explicit.

I enjoyed the adventures of Trian and Myrna and would love to see future books set in the same world with some of the secondary characters getting their chance as hero or heroine.

Excerpt:
They had to get out of the club. Even through the fog of his need Hervé knew he didn’t want their first time together to be like this—a fumbling encounter on his desk or tattoo table. He wanted to be able to look at Tala as he touched him, branded him with his attention, possessed him completely, utterly, as he’d dreamed.
Reluctantly he let go of Tala’s ass long enough to reach for his amulet, intending to open a portal, but clearly the elf had the same thought and beat him to it. There was a rush of magic, so strong as to be shocking, and in a blink they were in the master bedroom at the beach house.

There was no time to even consider the extent of Tala’s power because Hervé realized not only had the elf translocated them but he’d removed all their clothes too. They were skin-to-skin and the primal rush of arousal firing through his system was almost more than Hervé could bear. The sound that broke from his throat was agonized, feral, giving aural evidence of the yearning overwhelming his soul. Ravenous, he threaded the fingers of one hand through Tala’s hair and broke the kiss. Tugging on the toffee-brown curls, Hervé gave in to the need to taste him more fully and set mouth and teeth to the other man’s neck. Elation shook him when a low moan of assent vibrated from the straining throat into his lips.

Wedging a thigh between the other man’s, Hervé shuddered at the press of the hard cock against his hip, the slick dampness illustrating the extent of Tala’s arousal. Or was it his own cock causing the trails of wetness over their stomachs? Step by step he pressed the elf backward toward the bed, aware of the rocking of their groins, the hard grasp of Tala’s hands—one on his ass, the other on the back of his head. He’d never felt weak with need before, excited beyond bearing by the knowledge he was about to make love with—no, lay claim to—another being. Within raged the urge to brand Tala with his fire, take him, take from him something elemental and necessary, as the elf had so long ago stolen a piece of his heart.

Book One in the Unveiled Seduction series.
Jakuta Dagbo knows bad weather’s approaching, even though the sky above the faie world is clear. And when Gràinne Bairdie walks into The Midnight Café wanting an arcane tattoo, he realizes the tempest raging into his life has nothing to do with wind and rain. Just one look at her brings his storm god libido, and the protective instincts he no longer trusts, to thundering life.
Gràinne’s a banshee on the run, desperate to claim the emotions she’s sure are rightfully hers and has no time to explore the sparks of need flying between herself and Jakuta. What she’s trying to do will bring the wrath of the Banshee Council down on her head, and she knows they’ll do anything to stop her.
Yet, as Gràinne and Jakuta peel back the layers of their lives, searching for the answers she needs, they can’t ignore the lightning-hot passion searing their blood. And when emotion reaches its apex, demanding complete surrender to the cyclone of desire, neither can resist. Even if it means Gràinne’s banshee wail of release will be her last.

Book two in the Unveiled Seductions series.
Tattoo artist Jasmina is on a mission to entice her client Vidar into bed, but getting the shy, obscenely ripped troll to agree is going to take some work. Even telling him straightup she wants him doesn’t break through his reserved, polite demeanor. Just what does a jinn have to do? Maybe showing him the pleasures they can enjoy without jeopardizing their friendship will do the trick.
Beneath Vidar’s staid exterior his blood burns with the thought of having Jasmina for his own. He’s been carrying a torch for years, never thinking she’d be interested in a troll. Although he desperately wants to take Jasmina up on her offer, there’s something about him she doesn’t know, and he doubts she’ll still be interested if she finds out.
When Jasmina’s past threatens and Vidar offers her sanctuary, there’s no way to stop their passion from boiling to the surface. But despite their new closeness, secrets and dangerous enemies can destroy what they’ve built, forcing them to sacrifice everything to prove their love.

 photo Review.jpg

Forever: The Dragon War is a novella length story that has everything you want in a great paranormal romance packed into a easy to read in one sitting length book.

Devin is a veteran of the Dragon Wars and has come home after being held for 5 years in a dragon prison, Lena the little girl next door is all grown up and she has been waiting for him, she knew since she was 7 years old he was her mate.

Ms. Royce has written a fantastic tale of a world where humans have been extinct for 100's of years and werewolves are now the norm. With our hero a war vet with the were equivalent of PTSD, damaged sense of smell, broken leg and unable to shift we can almost relate on a real life level with his character. Lena is in a situation where the mate she has waited for doesn't recognize the link, she has aging parents and a junky sister and brother-in-law so once again very much a character we are able to connect with. When get a whole load of sexual tension and several burning up the sheets scenes to round the story into a great erotic paranormal romance.

Excerpt:

“You’re my mate, Devin. I’ve known it since the first time I was in your company when I was seven years old.”

Devin gripped the side of the table he stood next to like she’d struck him. “No.”

“No?” She hadn’t expected the pain of his rejection. She’d known he might not believe her at first. Tears she refused to shed clogged her throat. “It’s not ‘no.’ I’m your mate, such that I am.”

Lena knew she wasn’t an ideal Female specimen. Her skin frequently broke out in horrible bouts of acne, although she looked pretty clear at the moment, her chin jutted out too far, her hands were not dainty, and when she shifted, her Wolf form frequently had trouble coming to a stop at high speeds. More than once she’d collided into trees, bushes, and other Wolves.

But she knew she was a nice person. She could work hard, and she never asked anyone for anything but common decency. She’d be a good mate to him, and he shouldn’t be rejecting her outright.

Unless he found her absolutely repulsive to look at…

“You’ve made a mistake. Whatever you thought you smelled when you were a child was the wild fantasy of a young girl. You should be over it by now.”

She sighed. “Devin, I can still smell it. I promise when you get to know me you’ll find out I’m not wildly fanciful. I live in the real world.”

“I can’t smell it on you. Not at all. I’m sorry, Lena. You seem like a nice kid, but if you can really smell mating from me, then it’s one of those rare occasions where one Wolf feels something the other doesn’t.”

Lena had heard about those situations. It was every young Wolf’s deepest fear. Something went askew with the chemistry. One Wolf felt mated and the other one didn’t. They could even mate with someone else.

“I think you should go home and work on getting over whatever this is because, at least for my part, it is not a mating.”

Lena’s heart might explode from her chest. She turned on her heel. What else was there to say, really? He’d said no. He didn’t feel it. She’d waited fifteen years for him to come home, and it had been for nothing.

Claimed By Dragons by Amber Skyze and Katalina Leon

Title: Claimed By Dragons
Series: Bag of Tricks #2
Author: Amber Skyze and Katalina Leon
Pages: 265
Published: September 2012 Loose ID

In an odd Wiccan shop in Salem, Jael pulls an unusual stone from a witch’s wish bag. Little does she know her wildest dreams of adventure and a torrid affair with two gorgeous co-workers are about to come true—in spades.

Jael’s dreamy boss, Roarke offers her the assignment of a lifetime: a photo safari to Mount Kilimanjaro. The African scenery is stunning but the unexpected arrival of her two office crushes, Roarke and Kypton ignites her passion. Just as the trio is getting steamy at a beautiful waterfall, danger intervenes forcing the men to reveal their secret. They're dragons. And now, to save her life, they have no choice but to abduct a startled Jael to their mountain lair on Kilimanjaro.

In the dragons' love nest, Jael learns the truth about their origins and explores all the erotic possibilities two eager lovers can offer. Love awakens, but the guys are being stalked by a covert group of dragon hunters and withholding a life or death secret that will push Jael’s courageous heart and commitment to the limits.

Warning: Story contains gorgeous male shape shifters eager to mate, lots of hot male action between two loving men, scorching ménage with one lucky woman, anal play for all, and polyandry with a happy ending. What more do you want?

Photobucket
While this is book #2 in the Bag of Tricks series it can be read entirely as a stand alone and has very little tie into the first book.

When Jael goes to Salem for a girls weekend with her friends she never would have thought it would change her entire life. Each of the girls pick a stone from a wish bag and Jael's leads her to Africa and into the arms of two men she has had hot steamy fantasies about.

Roarke and Kypton are two of very few dragon shifters left, they are lovers and have been looking for their mate before it is too late. When Jael returns from Salem with the dragon egg stone they know they have found her.

Claimed by Dragons is a well crafted story the characters feelings and the the imagery created come through to draw you in and you don't want to put the book down. The emotional dynamic between the 3 main characters is also well done. The tie between Roarke and Kypton is in place first and they have to deal with the adding of Jael to their relationship. The sex scenes are steamy and include both M/M, M/F, M/M/F and M/F/M.

I enjoyed the story and the relationships between all three of the main characters, I felt a little like Jael who professes to not believe even the witch at the shop in Salem is quick to accept the need to return the stone to Mount Kilimanjaro, and then accepts that Roarke and Kypton are dragons shifters, it keeps the story moving however and really its not about how someone would really deal with this but the magic of the witch in Salem, the stones selected, and the mate being found for the two sexy dragons.

I give Claimed by Dragons 4 out of 5 flowers.
