ARC Review: A Witch's Handbook of Kisses and Curses (Half Moon Hollow #3) by Molly Harper

Nola Leary would have been content to stay in Kilcairy, Ireland, healing villagers at her family’s clinic with a mix of magic and modern medicine. But a series of ill-timed omens and a deathbed promise to her grandmother have sent her on a quest to Half-Moon Hollow, Kentucky, to secure her family’s magical potency for the next generation. Her supernatural task? To unearth four artifacts hidden by her grandfather before a rival magical family beats her to it.

Complication One: Her grandfather was Mr. Wainwright and the artifacts are lost somewhere in what is now Jane Jameson's book shop.

Complication Two: her new neighbor, Jed Trudeau, who keeps turning up half naked at the strangest times, a distraction Nola doesn't need. And teaming up with a real-life Adonis is as dangerous as it sounds, especially when he’s got the face of an angel and the abs of a washboard—can Nola complete her mission before falling completely under his spell?

A Witch's Handbook of Kisses and Curses is the 3rd in the Half Moon Hollow series and also features Jane Jameson from the Jane Jameson series. This book can be read without having read the others and can stand alone.

Molly Harper gives us a zany, exciting and fun filled book filled with all sorts of paranormal beings from witches and vampires to shifters and ghosts. The world of Half Moon Hollow, KY is a true mix of characters and creatures.

Nola Leary a witch from Boston by way of Ireland is sent to Half Moon Hollow by her dying grandmother to find magical artifacts needed for a spell that must been done every 100 years. Problem is no one knows where they are.

Jed Trudeau who seems to have an aversion to shirts is Nola's neighbor in the Victorian turned duplex she is renting. He is hot, funny and seems to be hiding something.

We meet some of the residence of Half Moon Hollow as well Jane Jameson, Dick Cheney, Andrea, Gabriel, Zeb and Jolene all make Nola's stay in the states easier and better.

With a snarky, sarcastic and spunky heroine and a sexy, funny and sweet hero and some of the best secondary characters out there A Witch's Handbook of Kisses and Curses is laugh out loud funny, builds sexual tension to a few well written sex scenes and solves a couple of mysteries along the way. An admirable addition to the Half Moon Hollow series, I can't wait for the next one to come out.

About this author:
My mother remembers an 8-year-old me setting up my “writing office” in our living room by putting her old manual typewriter on the couch next to a toy phone. And I (very slowly) pecked out the story of my third-grade class taking a trip around the world and losing a kid in each city.

I had a dark sense of humor, even then.

Being a huge fan of vampire movies and TV shows, I wondered, what would be the most humiliating way possible to be turned into a vampire- a story that a vampire would be embarrassed to share with their vampire buddies over a nice glass of Type O. Well, first, you'd have to make the protaganist a bit of an accidental loser. She's single, almost 30, and a librarian working in the small Kentucky town where she grew up. This "triple whammy of worry" has made her a permanent fixture on her Mama's prayer list. And despite the fact that's pretty good at her job, she just got canned so her boss could replace her with someone who occasionally starts workplace fires. She drowns her sorrows at the local faux nostalgia-themed sports bar and during the commute home, she's mistaken for a deer and then shot by a drunk hunter. And then she wakes up as a vampire.

And thus, Jane Jameson and the wacky denizens of Half-Moon Hollow were born.
