One hundred and fifty years ago, Warrior Jovan of the Six Saviors realized he had a gift: the ability to feel emotions through touch. I was so excited to have the chance to be a part of Carly Fall's book tour for the latest in the Six Savior series, see at the end of 2011 or beginning of 2012 I won a copy of The Light Within Me in a blog hop. I have to admit I am a closet sci-fi romance geek and I fell in love with the six sexy aliens here from SR44.

With the gift of empathy Jovan is finding it harder to be around people including the other men on his team and there mates. Liberty is part of a group of refugees from SR44, when Jovan steps into help prevent Liberty from being assaulted he finds that he feels the need to protect her and takes her in.

I love the way that Ms. Fall has created a world where aliens are responsible for protecting us from escaped criminals from their world and that those criminals are some of the worst men in history (Saddam Hussein, Jeffrey Dahmer, ect...) The six saviors as they were dubbed at the beginning of their mission are sexy warriors that kick butt and have hearts of gold. These men are uber alpha males, Jovan is no different he finds when he starts to fall for Liberty. I loved seeing Liberty's self confidence bloom so that she was willing to go for what she wants and stand up for herself.

The sexual tension is ratcheted up when it is revealed that Liberty is Noah's half sister and Jovan has to decide if it is worth the risk of upsetting Noah.
Love this book, love the series, I can't wait to see what happens next.

Excerpt
He held on to Liberty a minute longer, then gently set her down. She beamed up at him, and something within him shifted. He realized he wasn’t looking at Liberty as Noah’s half-sister or an SR44 female born into servitude. He was seeing her as she was—sweet, pretty, little Liberty with the laugh of an angel, the one being on Earth who could help him. And he was seeing her for who she was, not some twisted fantasy of her swinging around on a stripper’s pole.

This was not good. He felt his SR44 male begin to grumble, wanting the female in front of him.

Taking a step back, he cleared his throat. “Thank you, Liberty,” he said quietly. “Thanks for helping me get a lasso on this thing.”

“Of course, Jovan,” she said softly. A slight blush crossed her cheeks and she looked away.

The temperature in the room spiked, and Jovan felt a sexual tension between them spark and crackle.

No, this was not good at all.

“I’d better get upstairs and meet with Noah and the others,” he said, stepping around her. Yes, it was time to get the fuck out of here before he did something stupid.

As he waited for the elevator, he heard the door to the quarters shut, and Liberty came to stand next to him.

“You can’t go with me to the meeting, Liberty,” he said, looking down at her.

She met his eyes. “I had no intention of going with you, Jovan. Am I not free to move about this dwelling by myself?”

He heard the challenge and indignation in her voice, and he liked it. Over the past two days, the subservient Liberty was starting to be replaced by this little female who was looking at him like she dared him to tell her to stay, and she would rain down the consequences of the wrong answer.

“Of course. My apologies.”

As they stepped into the elevator together, Jovan felt the small space getting smaller. Out of the corner of his eye, he watched her look up at the numbers lighting up above. Dressed in a pair of jeans he had bought her and a pink t-shirt she had borrowed from Faith, she looked troubled.

“Penny for your thoughts,” Jovan said. Not that he should care, but he did.

“I’m sorry?”

“Penny for your thoughts. It means I want to know what you’re thinking.”

A sly grin played on her lips. “Oh, Jovan, it will cost you much more than a penny. Thoughts are precious and shouldn’t be sold so cheaply.”

I want to thank Sylvia for agreeing to write up a guest post for us. Take it away Sylvia...

Your protaganist's Conflicts: Drama, Deterrents & Damned!

Definition of Conflict: The struggle within a plot between opposing forces.

I learned about conflict when I first entered college.

You see I always equate the dumb things I’ve done in life to learning experiences in my writing.

In college, I did a lot of dumb things.

I mean, I guess I was supposed to because I was away from my parents, on my own, hanging with wild and crazy people and loving every second of it.

So there, I got my “experience” in at that time, but I also learned about conflict.

In conflict, I learned during the midst of the worst, it’s really hard to see the silver lining and sometimes it feels like there’s no way out.

I felt like that a lot. All around me was drama, deterrents and situations so awful, one would just look at it and say, "Damn!"

So many conflicts, I really was blind to positivity, resolutions or a way out until I started writing seriously again.

That was after college.

In writing, I learned I could see things more clearly and see the end to the problems in my stories and in my life.

Writing saved me. Writing help me see.

I know that sounds strange, but it’s true.

On with the lesson.

In a writer's story as in life, the protagonist is usually going through several “conflicts” at the time.

No one ever goes through one problem at a time in REAL life, so you have to remember the list of conflicts your protagonist must go through.

Conflict can go :

1. against another person
2. against nature
3. against society
4. against machine
5. against God
6 against him/herself

In these general conflicts, various things can rage.

Like in the first Mistaken Identity book, Dana had a family conflict with her twin sister, the deception she was doing to her brother in law, and in the midst of the story she had a conflict with what society would deem as abnormal.

In the second book of the Mistaken series, Love 101, Cheyenne had a conflict with herself, with her job and and against society.

On a side note, I think I do a lot of stories where society will have a conflict with the decisions my protaganist will have to make. I think as a human being this makes life more interesting when you're not conforming to the rules or norms of what society has and living happy despite the conflict.

Now I usually don’t do more than three conflicts. I’ve seen where writers try to get all of them in to make the story longer, but I found with a great deal fo research length in a story takes care of itself.

Resolving Conflict.

Writers MUST resolve ALL conflicts protagonist has. Nothing gets a reader's goat when the all resolutions to the conflicts haven't been address.

I found the reader to be much happier when you do give resolution.

Writers, please do not end a story without doing so, or tell the reader it’s going to be in another book. If you’re an avid reader, as much as you are a writer, (which you should be) you ought to understand that can piss someone off.

(sorry for the language.)

Now in series, there are SOME exceptions to the rules, but that goes into a lot deeper explaination.

Oh-kay, that’s enough on the writing tip for the day.

I hope I've added something to help you understand conflicts whether you're a reader or a writer!

In the future dystopian world, built by Ashlynn Monroe for Given, women have been mostly wiped out from a mystery illness and since they are in such limited supply the government houses and protects them until they are 21 when they are the "prise" in a lottery and given to six men.

This is not your typical menage story, the men are friends but still territorial and jelious of each other. Krista our heroine has a favorite and everything so it doesn't play out where they all end up a big happy family.

I felt that a lot of the book went into telling the story of the plague, government interference and Christa's "choice" to not try to escape being given, I wish at least some of that time had been more devoted to the men in the story. We find out superficial information for the most part about most of them and I would have loved to read more of their back story as well, I would also like to see future books telling the story of the men.

Lots of sex, some of it kinky but that is to be expected when you give a woman to six men who have never had one. Best of all there is a HEA.

Excerpt
They left her alone. She sat down on the bed and air whooshed from her lungs as she sat in a state of nervous anticipation. Oh God, who should I pick? She couldn’t help wondering. Choosing felt so very wrong to her. She may belong to these men for a long time, and the idea of alienating any of them, or getting off on a bad start, twisted her stomach in knots of nervous anxiety. She stood up and unpacked her few belongings. The closet looked so empty after she’d put her scant possessions into it. She began walking down the stairs and she heard their voices. Krista paused to listen, feeling a bit evil for eavesdropping.

“It’s only right that she pick.”

“We’ve all waited so long, shouldn’t we draw straws or something?”

“For God’s sake, she’s a human being, not a new toy. Let the girl have her pick. We’ll all have a chance.”

“What if we all share her tonight? Then it’s fair to all of us.”

“It wouldn’t be fair to Krista. If she was your new bride, would you want to pass her around to five other guys?”

“There’s no more marriage, so the question isn’t valid. The world isn’t nice and romantic. The fact is, she’ll have to sleep with all of us.”

“For tonight, let her have some peace. I say no one should touch her.”

“Are you fucking kidding? Hell no, she picks at least one of us and that’s final!”

“Shh, she’ll hear you.”

“It’s not like it’ll hurt her the first time, they have their cherries popped by the doctor. I say we ask. She seems understanding.”

She’d heard enough. She finished walking down the stairs, one squeaked. They all turned, giving her guilty looks.

“Yes, I heard. I was thinking about the same thing. I don’t know if I can pick. I don’t want to cause infighting here, and I don’t want anyone to feel hurt. I don’t know what to do,” she finished miserably.

“We won’t force you to do anything you don’t want to do, but you should sleep with at least one of us tonight,” Damon said.

“If you want to pick more than one, that’s okay too,” DeAnthony amended. Krista blushed.

Excerpt Tour: REBEL BRIDE by Morgan K Wyatt

 photo BookTour.jpg

Eileen Sewell sparks plenty of gossip by spiteful matrons and their horse-faced daughters that she’d find herself alone due to her picky ways.

Of course, she didn’t believe them. Then again, she also didn’t expect to be a mail order bride either. It wasn’t easy snagging a husband who hadn’t heard about her willful nature. Eileen finally gave up hope of finding love, and decided to settle for whatever she’d find out west.

If that wasn’t lowering enough, she’d just witnessed the first train robbery. Unfortunately, the outlaws saw her too. Enter Marshal Colt Sheppard, who excels at extracting information from reticent witnesses. His crooked smile and broad shoulders shouldn’t charm her. She’d played this game before, only she never had a worthy adversary. Talk about bad timing.

Exclusive Excerpt:

“You shouldn’t have kissed me. It was unpardonable of you to take advantage of a war widow.”
Colt crossed his arms and shook his head slowly back and forth. “War widow, my foot. I doubt that very much. Don’t know why you’re parading around in weeds, but I am interested in finding out.”
“What makes you think I am not a widow?” Eileen was miffed over her costume not deceiving him. It could be widows did not go around kissing strange men or at least recent ones didn’t. She’d heard there were some friendly widows in town, but their deceased husbands served only as a name, making her wonder if they ever existed.
He eyed her up and down, smiled, and then let loose a bark of laughter. “Ah, if you were ever married, then your husband should be horse-whipped for his failure to kiss you properly. You do not kiss like a woman with experience. You are more like a love-starved virgin than a widow.”
Eileen stiffened her spine. His words were true, but she resented them just as the same. “Sir, I beg you not to speak poorly of my husband.”
“Ma’am, I can’t speak for a man who doesn’t exist. If you were my wife, you would be well kissed, well handled, and well pleasured.” He said the last word in a suggestive growl.

NetGalley Review: Lust Unleashed (Night Seekers #1) by Desiree Holt

Jonah Grey, driven by a lust for the blood of the legendary Chupacabra that murdered the woman who was to be his mate, jumps at the offer to leave the FBI and join Night Seekers, who are dedicated to hunting and killing the devil beast. Then Jonah encounters a woman with whom he shares explosive chemistry that neither can deny—and sex that brings a level of pleasure neither has ever known. Soon he’s dividing his time and indulging in erotic bouts of orgasmic lust with Dakota. But the devil beast must still be dealt with, and the wolf in Jonah won’t rest until the Chupacabra is dead.

 photo Review.jpg

I must tell you I was a bit wary of a book that involved the the Chupacabra but I have enjoyed Desiree Holt for some time and so I thought I would give it a try.

Jonah Gray is one of a team of former military and law enforcement officers who's lives have been altered because a loved one was killed by the Chupacabra.
They are brought together by billionaire Craig Stafford who's wife and child were killed, the objective of the team who named themselves the Night Seekers is to hunt and kill the Chupacabra. Most of the Night Seekers are shifters and Jonah is a wolf.

Jonah and Dakota meet while Jonah is on his first mission to track the Chupacabra after it has killed two hunters in Texas. The lust is immediate and hot steamy sex follows repeatedly.

Since one must suspend disbelief when reading paranormal romance anyway with shifters and the like stretching to include the Chupacabra really isn't that much of a difficulty. Desiree Holt always does a good job with giving us plenty of erotic in our erotic romance and enough back story and character development that it's a fun easy read.

I enjoyed this book a good deal it was a great step into the paranormal world while at the same time being a total panty dampener.

She was a summer fishing guide, a summer field hand where she was one of only three women working, a member of a beginning ski team that skied in competition (and no, no broken bones!). She spent several years in the music business representing every kind of artist from country singer to heavy metal rock bands. For several years she also ran her own public relations agency handling any client that interested her. United is book two in the Ushers series and really should be read in order to get all the context of the world and the backstory.

As part of the continuing story of the Ushers who are to gather the weres to create a united were society, United tells the story of Fionn and Monica. Fionn is the 2nd Usher and is destined to gather the weres. Monica is his mate, once he decides to claim her. The world created by Ms. North is complex, the concepts of being led by guardians who are created by a goddess and the idea of ghost wolves are unique to Ms. North's version of shifter society. We get plenty of plot twists and turns. I am not sure how I felt about the idea of "Christians" being the "bad guy" in the book but it didn't overall detract from the story.

This book has plenty of good old fashion mating sex and is fairly steamy at times. Don't look for the end of the overall story in this book however we do get to see Monica and Fionn despite their differences get a HEA.

Excerpt
He laid his head in her lap, and she savored the feel of it, the weight of him against her as he relaxed onto her legs. Her hand stole into his dyed-blond hair, ruffling though it, the texture like silk under her fingers. She felt his wolf within him, reaching for her touch and knew that he denied himself as much as her. She stroked from his hair down into his beard and she watched as his lips parted and he drew a ragged breath.

Annie stood quietly, then tiptoed from the room, closing the door behind her.

“Fionn,” Monica whispered. “Why are you doing this to us?”

“I don’t know, dammit.” His eyes clenched shut as he sat back on his heels, burying both hands in his hair. Finally, he looked up and his eyes met hers, agony hovering just under the surface. “I’m falling apart, just being close to you.”

“Kiss me,” she demanded. He looked at her, startled.

“C’mon, Finny, kiss me,” she repeated.

“Mo…”

“No, Fionn Murphy.” She stood up, tugging him to his feet with her. “You need to know something. I’m your mate. I know what that is, how it feels. You’ve never been mated before. You’ve played around, but you don’t know what it feels like to kiss your mate. Don’t you want to know? Aren’t you even the littlest bit curious?” She stood up on the tips of her toes, pressing her face to the skin of his throat and inhaling his scent.

Oh Goddess, up close he smelled even more intense and amazing .

“Mo,” he pleaded. She met his eyes and saw in them a hunger that sent echoes of need into her. Feeling the heady power of seduction, she leaned forward and licked from the hollow between his collarbones up to his ear, and she bit, scissoring the lobe between her teeth. She felt the rumble of a growl run through him, and he pushed her away. Her eyes closed, tears forming with a sting behind her nose.

Then his hands were bracketing her face and his lips crushed down hard on hers. This was no gentle kiss. Nothing like Angelo’s caring caresses, intended for comfort. This kiss wasn’t about caring. It was full of anger, lust, regret. But as his tongue swept through her mouth and his elemental male taste tingled all the way to her toes, she felt her teeth lengthen and she smiled against his lips. Her mate.

His assault on her mouth lost some of its fervor, replacing the urgency with languor as he swept his tongue through her mouth again and again as if he wanted to memorize her taste. Her hands fisted in the cotton of his tank top, pinching the nipple ring underneath. His hands sank into her hair, tugging. She felt with her tongue and realized his teeth had shifted too. The knowledge sent a victorious thrill through her.

He knew. He knew, dammit.

He pulled away, leaving her bereft. She watched as he dragged the back of his hand across his mouth in horror. “I’m sorry Mo. I should never—ever—have kissed you in anger.”

“If that’s the only way I can ever have you, I would take it,” she confessed. It broke her to admit it, but she knew the pull of mate to mate.

His eyes closed and a spasm of pain crossed his face.

“You deserve so much better,” he whispered. He ran a gentle hand down the side of her face and grimaced. “I have to go. We can talk, after I get back?”

She nodded. Of course they could talk. All they ever did was talk.
