His Right Hand by Silence O'Shea

Mike Jasper might be one hell of a catch on paper, but he’s still lacking in a few crucial areas. Just ask his impressive list of disgruntled, dissatisfied exes. Who knew good looks, a hard body and plenty of money weren’t enough, especially between the sheets? When it comes to sex, he reluctantly admits he needs help. And who better to ask than his longtime assistant? Ellen is his right hand, completely devoted. She already sees to his business needs. Surely she can offer a few pointers in pleasure?

After a humiliating demonstration of his limited skills, Jasper’s relieved when Ellen agrees, apparently recognizing a cry for help when she sees one. And the first thing he learns? His intelligent, austere assistant has been hiding an insanely hot and horny vixen under those business suits! Before long, Jasper’s office is a flesh-filled pleasure den, Ellen’s sexual satisfaction crucial to finding his own. He’s learning more than he’d ever dreamed possible under Ellen’s titillating tutelage…included some unexpected lessons in love.

Silence O'Shea is a relatively new Indie Author and His Right Hand is her first offering having hit the market March of this year. I will tell you this is a name to keep an eye out for because first novel or not this was a really good book.

His Right Hand refers to Jasper's executive assistant that he thinks of as his right hand man, that is until he calls her into work on a Sunday and she shows up in a cute little sundress and not her usual power suit. Ellen may be just what Jasper needs seeing as how he is just coming to understand he sucks in bed. Ellen for her part is hesitant at first but after a personal display of his ineptitude she agrees to show him how to satisfy a woman.

His Right Hand is an erotic novel but doesn't have any unusual sexual acts detailed, it is hot but not smutty, it also has some of the funniest moments of dialogue I have read for a while. It is a fun love story set in this the modern age with a woman who knows her mind and her body and a poor little rich boy who has never had anyone explain to him the mystery of a womans body.

Stark Pleasure; the Space Magnate's Mistress (LodeStar, #1) by Cathryn Cade

Can she survive the perils of the galaxy on her wits … or will she have to use her body?

Kiri te Nawa will do anything to escape the perilous streets of New Seattle, Earth II and find the treasure for which she searches the galaxy, even become the mistress of space magnate Logan Stark. But is he her savior, or simply the man who wants to own her sexually?

Just when she is ready to submit more than her body to this powerful, magnetic man, she's kidnapped and thrown into her worst nightmare. Will he search for her, or believe she's betrayed him with an old lover?

Set in the futuristic galaxy of The Orion Series.

 photo Review.jpg

Stark's Pleasure has Logan Stark as the hero, if you have read The Orion Series then you will recognise that name as the owner of the LodeStar line of star cruise ships the series took place on.

Cathryn Cade does an amazing job building a new not only world but universe with new planets, races and some of the same issues that face the world today. Ms. Cade takes all of this and presents it to us in a fun and sexy story that will have you laugh out loud at some points and wanting to shake the hero or heroine at others.

Logan Stark is your quintessential alpha male, who has made his way up from nothing to being one of the richest men in the galaxy. Kiri te Nawa is a young woman who is trying to make a better life for herself with her own business, a small coffee stand, when she catches the eye of Logan and as with all alpha males what Logan wants Logan gets.

We are taken through the growing romance between Logan and Kiri and watch as Logan must let Kiri in and Kiri must learn to accept help. There are some BDSM overtones to the sex scenes and that makes them all that much more smokin' hot.
This book just came out and I am already searching for info on when the next in the series will be available as things are left rather open ended in this first one.

As you may know by now I am a huge history geek and so when the opportunity to review The Vacant Chair, a civil war romance, came around I lept at the chance. I am extremely glad I did. While a work of fiction the accurate historical detail is astounding.

The hero of The Vacant Chair is Justin Thompson a captain in the Fifth Michigan Cavalry known as the Wolverines. Justin and his brother Mitch are both injured and end up in a Union army hospital where a beautiful nurse he met in passing is working, Brianna.
While she helps to restore his health they fall in love.

Breanna is a widow who saw her first husband die at the beginning of the Civil War in appalling conditions in an army hospital because of that she dedicates herself to becoming a nurse and saving as many young men as she can. Brianna because of her dedication saves Justin's life when he is wounded and brought to her hospital.

This romance follows some of the ugliest fighting and situations of any war in this countries history. The detail is rich and descriptive as well as moving and heartbreaking. Ms. Cross brings us into the war and into the lives of not only Justin and Breanna but of their families as well. The gripping tale of long distance love during a time of war and the anticipation and worry are written in a way that you can feel it along with the characters in the story.

While this does have some steam it doesn't reach what I would consider erotic and is done well so it flows with the story and doesn't feel like the author added it to make the book racy. It is very well done. Overall I must say this is well worth your time to read.

The Vacant Chair excerpt for My Reading Obsession:

Justin’s gaze darkened with longing. He gathered her hands in his and squeezed them, staring straight into her eyes. “I’m falling in love with you.”
Her heart drummed in her ears. Brianna’s feelings for him were so intense she hadn’t dared trust them. Was that possible? For her to fall in love so quickly? She couldn’t speak, simply drank him in and knew that no matter what happened, she’d remember this moment for the rest of her life.
“I think you care about me too,” he continued, his hands warm around hers. “But are you willing to wait for me?”
A nervous jitter started in her belly. “Yes, I absolutely will.” Her heart pounded like she’d jumped off a cliff.
Justin laughed at her astonished expression. “I realize we haven’t known each other very long, and there’s always a chance I won’t live to see the end of the war—”
She put a hand over his mouth to stop the awful words and shook her head. “Don’t even think like that.”
He pressed a kiss to her sensitized palm before pulling her hand away. “With you waiting for me, how could I not come back?”
Fear bubbled up, thick enough to choke on. She buried her cheek into the hollow of his shoulder, afraid of losing him as she had everyone else. “I don’t want you to go.”
Justin cupped her face between his hands and tipped her head back to settle his gaze on her mouth. Her heart skipped a beat when his lashes dipped down and he lowered his head toward her. Brianna met him half way.
A rush of sensual heat swept through her when his lips settled over hers, firm and warm. She made a soft sound of relief and gripped his shoulders as long-buried desire exploded inside her.
Justin angled his head and took her mouth in a velvet caress of lips and tongue. His clean scent wrapped around her, citrus and soap, and he tasted of the lemon tarts she’d seen in the kitchens earlier. Her body tightened, pulsed, and her thoughts scattered. Even wounded he was much stronger than her, yet so gentle as he held her head still. He slid his tongue over her lower lip, turning her liquid with the hunger she sensed raging beneath his controlled exterior.
It only intensified the ache inside her.
Raw need ignited in her blood. Her breasts tingled as a wave of heat engulfed her, making her breathless. This kiss wasn’t enough. She wanted his hands on her, all over her bare skin. Wanted to hold him inside her body as deeply as she could. She craved the release her body clamored for. Brianna shifted to her knees and twisted closer to him. A frustrated whimper slipped out of her and she arched her back to press her breasts against him to find some relief.
Justin held her firmly in place, teasing her with his tongue. Impatient, Brianna touched her tongue to his. He tangled both hands in her hair and groaned as he fused their mouths together.

 photo Review.jpg

Wyndham Shores, Mass is the setting for Shore Leave and it reminded me of every small town I have known, everyone knows at least something about everything that is going on with anyone in town. When Greg Marsters makes a mess of his marriage everyone knows about it and no one wants to hear what happened from his side, not that he is doing much talking about it he is to busy beating himself up over it.

Melanie is your classic girl next door with a huge crush most of her life on Greg, it isn't until he comes home after being injured in a rescue operation with the Navy that she gets to see him again and the chance to pursue the man she has been fantasizing about for years.

Ms. McKellan gives us a damaged hero and a heroine who has been hurt it makes them both rather gun shy. I liked the premise of the story and the love/sex scenes are hot, however I did find that I thought the story could have used a bit more depth to it. I guess since the characters knew each other in passing most of there lives that was the reason for the less is more approach to backstory. I did have a hard time with the repetitiveness of Gregs argument against getting in deeper with Mel and his self flagellation yes he should feel like a putz but I don't want that to be part of every scene and conversation.

I saw a lot of potential in this storyline, I would have loved to hear more about Greg's Navy career, a bit more background on the town and his family background. Overall it was a fun read and I liked it.

Lover Undercover (Love Undercover #1) by Samanthe Beck *A NetGalley Review*

He’s undercover. She’s in over her head.

Yoga instructor Kylie Roberts is the good twin. At least she was—until an accident forces Kylie to step into her twin’s sexy stilettos at a posh Hollywood “men’s club." But nothing could've prepared Kylie for the dead body in the club’s parking lot or the ridiculously hot detective who insists the killer is targeting her regulars.

Detective Trevor McCade needs Kylie’s help to draw out the killer. It means long nights undercover and long dances where Kylie’s body tempts him with sensual promises. Dances that leave them both wanting more. But despite Kylie's hidden identity and the danger lurking in the shadows, it’s only a matter of time before Kylie and Trevor take this undercover operation under the covers…

 photo Review.jpg

As a kid who didn't want a twin who could take your place when you needed it? Well Kylie is a bit of a spot when her sister is injured and can't dance so Kylie has to take her place at the "gentlemen's club" that she works at so they can pay the bills. How was she to know her sister was the center of a police undercover operation.

Trevor's job is to hang around the strip club where a killer has struck and see if he can't draw the person out. When he meets Kylie she is at once a mystery and a fantasy. Can he catch the killer before Kylie's identity is found out and the killer gets away.

My first love in reading was mysteries so when I can find a good suspenseful mystery mixed with a blazing hot erotic romance I am in heaven. Lover Undercover has Kylie pretending to be a stripper, Trevor pretending to be a customer and somewhere a killer pretending to be a normal person. Since a good portion of the book takes place in a strip joint you know it is going to be an over 18 story as well and Ms. Beck delivers with some scenes that are so steamy you will need to sit in front of the air conditioner or hop in a cold shower.

A gathering storm of violence is on the horizon. Whispered threats of the Acta Sanctorum’s return have the supernatural world abuzz. Only recently aware of the other world hidden behind our own, Kitara Vanders has barely scratched the surface of what being supernatural truly means. A special woman in her own right, she possesses unique telepathic abilities, gifts that have recently come under the scrutiny of the Acta Sanctorum, a fanatical organization whose mission is to cleanse the world of anything supernatural. Targeted, and marked for death, Kitara’s only hope lies with the lethally seductive yet emotionally scarred warrior, Nicholas.
Knowing full well the atrocities the Acta Sanctorum is capable of, Nicholas is all too eager for the battle to begin. Fueled by pain and rage from the loss of his mate, he’s itching for a fight, but one thing stands in his way, Kitara: a beautiful dark-haired woman with unique psychic abilities and an unusual link to the Saints. Despite his resolve to remain focused on his mission, a purely physical relationship binds them together in a way neither of them expected. And when her life hangs in the balance, Nicholas finds his own is teetering on the edge too.

 photo Review.jpg

Dark Salvation is the 6th in the Immortalis Vampire series, the story stands by itself but is in better context when read as part of the series.

Nicholas has been a vampire since before Brutus stabbed Cesar and having lost his mate doesn't feel like he has a whole lot of reason to go on.
Kitara has lost her man to the cult of the Saints, Acta Sanctorum, vampire hunters because she is a witch. She tracks him from Texas to Boston to try to reason with him. That's how she meets Nicholas.

Ms. Salidas gives us a fantastic look into what it must be like to be immortal. Dark Salvation is at time funny, suspenseful, steamy and even touching with the devotion in the face of loss that both Nicholas and Kitara face. The world created here has werewolves, vampires that are thousands of years old as well as newly turned vampires, witches and religious fanatics who's goal is to wipe out anything that is not 1oo% human.

I love the many personalities of the different vampire characters and that they hunt the bad people to suck dry. This is a fun and sexy read that you will enjoy alone or as part of the series.

Excerpt
Kitara glanced down to the ring on her finger. The small band of gold with channel-set diamonds and sapphires had only adorned her finger for six months. She remembered the day Jeremy got down on one knee and proposed. He’d told her he was the luckiest man alive to have found her and that he’d do everything in his power to take care of her.
How could all that have changed in such a short time? What had the Saints done to turn his affections? For that matter, what other lies had the Saints told Jeremy?
After becoming a Saint, Jeremy had said vampires and all other supernatural beings were depraved creatures. That had been the start of the end for their relationship. She’d been labeled one of the unnatural creatures for the way she prayed under the light of the full moon.
She’d believed that other creatures could be evil, but not her. She wasn’t a witch or anything like that. And vampires, sure, they would most certainly be on the list of bad things. But now that she’d met one, she wasn’t so sure she agreed with that assessment any more.
Despite his abrasive attitude, that vampire – Nicholas – had showed more humanity than the jerk she’d met at the bar the previous night. He’d saved her not once, but twice, albeit in the most aggravating way possible. He hadn’t tried to bite her either. Though now that she thought about it, his mental attack on her at the club might have been exactly the kind of thing Jeremy had warned her about. Thankfully she’d been able to ward him off. The echo of a headache still remained, a subtle reminder that if she chose to fight a mental attack, she could do it. She’d just need to make sure she could find a safe place to weather the aftereffects.
Perhaps not all Jeremy had told her had been true, but there were kernels of truth there that had her questioning everything she had known.
Vampires were real. She’d just met one in the flesh. And though she hated to admit it, his flesh wasn’t all that bad either. She’d expected to see sallow skin and a gaunt frame, something out of Nosferatu. Maybe even some crazy looking fangs. Nicholas was nothing like that. Despite his abrasive attitude, he was attractive and muscular, his dusky blue eyes were mesmerizing, and his teeth… sharp, but very discreet. She’d only really gotten a good glance at them when he smiled. And though it made her stomach turn at the idea of what he did with those fangs, she felt a twinge of excitement seeing them. A small thought crept into her mind. What would it feel like to be bitten? As soon as the thought took form, she pushed it away. That was exactly the kind of thing that invited trouble. She’d already had plenty of that.
The reality of this new information was unsettling. Vampires were obviously real. Witches were real. Jeremy had accused her of that more times than she could count. And if all of what Nicholas had said was true, and the Saints were killing all things unnatural, then she was a target herself.
That couldn’t be right. No. There was no way Jeremy, the same man who once filled the entire room with candles and red rose petals, could kill her in cold blood.
