A Journey in Time by Chris Karlsen Review and Giveaway

Looking for the Naughty of Nice blog hop post?

Knights in Time book 2

London attorney, Shakira Constantine finally agrees to spend the day with her handsome client, Alex Lancaster. While riding in the countryside, the couple finds themselves caught in a time warp and transported back to the 14th century- and an England preparing for war. Everyone believes Alex is the Baron Guy Guisard, a baron who died in the upcoming battle.

If they can't find a way to return to the 21st Century, Alex will have to sail with the army to certain death. Shakira will be left alone to survive in the alien and terrifying medieval world.

*Excerpt*

"Alex, what is going on?" she asked in a frenzied whisper.

"Shh." After they mounted, Alex sidled over, so close their boots touched. "We're riding into a very perilous situation. I'll explain everything when we're alone. Your life, my life," he stressed, "depends on you being quiet until then."

Confused, it took Shakira a few seconds before she nodded yes.

"Remember what I told you," he warned and trotted ahead to chat with the knight he called Simon.

*My Review*
While this is the second book in the series there is no reason this can't be read as a stand alone book, the novel is a story in and of itself.

Shakira Constantine has worked her behind off to become the successful attorney she has become. From delaying her social life in college to make the best grades to not pursuing the handsome Alex Lancaster, the music producer her friend Miranda keeps trying to fix her up with.

Alex Lancaster is a playboy, he knows it but he finds that it is a regrettable reality when you date women then they want to get "serious" and he isn't able to put himself through the loss of so much ever again.

This story is a great mix of love, sexual tension, medieval knights, time travel and a great bit of humor thrown in to make it a delightful read. In the story we get to know Alex and Shakira is what has to be some of the strangest circumstances for a first date ever to befall a couple.

We get to meet Alex the modern day music producer as well as Guy the medieval knight and see how the two are connected through time and how Shakira comes to fall in love with him. The story is equal parts medieval romance and contemporary romance with a dash of astrophysics just to keep things fun.

Chris Karlsen has a great sense of humor and it comes through in this book in funny situations, comments as well as some well placed snark!
I enjoyed this book very much and give it a rating of red roses

Author Bio:
I was born and raised in Chicago. My father was a history professor and my mother was, and is, a voracious reader. I grew up with a love of history and books.

My parents also love traveling, a passion they passed onto me. I wanted to see the places I read about, see the land and monuments from the time periods that fascinated me. I’ve had the good fortune to travel extensively throughout Europe, the Near East, and North Africa.

I am a retired police detective. I spent twenty-five years in law enforcement with two different agencies. My desire to write came in my early teens. After I retired, I decided to pursue that dream.

I currently live in the Pacific Northwest with my husband, four rescue dogs and a rescue horse.

  4. Hi Ingeborg,
Knowing what you know now, going back to the old west you'd have the info on where the gold was found and could get there first:)

  6. If I could time travel, I'd have to choose the future too. I have hope for mankind, but then that's probably a fantasy. lol.

  7. Hi Sharon,
Wow, very brave living in an Aliens movie. Things didn't work out well for lots of those folks. I'm too much of a weenie to risk running into an acid dripping, big toothed alien.

  8. Hi Lorrie,

The future is an interesting choice. I hope somewhere in that time, they've figured out a way for people to eat yummy stuff without gaining weight. And, I'd hope they stopped driving whole species into extinction.

  9. I loved the excerpt. If I could go back in time, I would love to return to England in the 1800's.

  10. Hi Chris! I tend to prefer contemporary romances...and definitely with snark and humor...so this seems like a fun way to read a contemporary/historical and still get my funny fix!

  11. Hi MomJane,
I would be more inclined to go to England of the 1800's than to the world of Alien. No one is getting burned at the stake anymore, which is always a concern of mine when thinking of going back. And no major invasion of an enemy army is happening. Some positives to that option:)

  12. Hi Catherine Lee,

How nice to visit with you again. I think it's a nice mix of contemporary and historical. I tried to keep the reader with one foot in the modern world and one in the medieval.

  14. Hi AdOffae,

I'm so glad you're worried for Alex. Both he and Shakira are in a world of trouble. I had fun writing the story and taking them to the middle ages.
